Project 'Sport' unit 5

Introduction

Hello dear students!

 

Welcome to this webquest. During this project you're going to learn about a specific British, American or Australian sport.
Challenge yourself to become an expert on your subject and to create the best movie ever made about that specific sport.

During the last lesson we'll watch each other's videos, mark each other's videos and reflect on this product. You'll be graded on your final product, the subassignments, and your collaboration.

Learning aims

At the end of this project, you:

  • have made a video about a British, American or Australian sport (see further on the website for the list of sports to choose from).
  • have read one text about the chosen sport.
  • have seen a documentary about your chosen sport.
  • have written a short report about your chosen sport.
  • can clearly explain the rules of your chosen sport.
  • have documented which new vocabulary you have learnt.
  • know at least three English sport-related idioms/sayings.

Step 3 - start reading

You can look on the English wikipedia or search on Google for information about your sport.

Make sure you find out

- what the rules are.

- what the history about the sport is.

- if there are important games (Olympics? Superbowl?)

- what the fun facts are about the sport.

- if there are people who became famous because of this sport.

- and other interesting information.

Step 4 - watch a documentary

A documentary should consist of information about the sport.
It doesn't have to an enormously long documentary, but it has to be at least 10 minutes long.

In addition, you can also watch a match or fragments of matches.

Step 5 - create your video

What should your video consist of?

You are going to make a 'Klokhuis'-like video of about 5 minutes.

It has to start with a +/- 20 seconds intro.

Then you're going to give information about the sport.

You tell as much as you can think of. You can include fragments of documentaries. You may use pictures. BUT you record your own voices under the fragments/pictures.

You include 1 sketch, as you'll also find in the Klokhuis episodes.

Your video finishes with a quiz questions where the 'people at home' can win a price when they send in the correct answer.
This should be linked to English idioms about sport.

What should your storyboard consist of?

A storyboard is a document showing what you're going to tell each scene.
