Doe mee aan de VO-content cup!
Dit jaar bundelen VO-content en Unesco-scholen hun krachten voor de VO-content Cup 2025. Deze wedstrijd daagt leerlingen en docenten uit om samen een originele en impactvolle les te ontwikkelen. Een mooie kans om maatschappelijke betrokkenheid en innovatie binnen het onderwijs te versterken.
Als Unesco-school krijgen jullie een exclusieve vooraankondiging en de kans om als eerste deel te nemen aan deze competitie. De winnende school ontvangt niet alleen een unieke trofee, maar ook leuke prijzen en een feestelijke prijsuitreiking op school!

Illustrative Practices in Culture and Arts Education
Minute for hope 9 mei
We warmly invite schools in your country to take part in the international campaign Minute for Hope, taking place on Thursday, May 9th, 2025 at 12:00 (noon).
This campaign calls on schools and communities across Europe and beyond to pause for one minute and carry out a small act of hope – together.
It responds to the global need to strengthen the values of human dignity, peace, democracy, equality, and solidarity – values at the heart of UNESCO’s vision for Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) and Global Citizenship Education (GCED).
In today’s world, these values are increasingly challenged – even in democratic societies. They are actively defended for instance in Ukraine, and they must be upheld everywhere: through education, dialogue, cooperation, and everyday actions.
How can schools participate?
At 12:00, it’s time for action – choose your school’s own act of hope in advance and carry it out together.
Participation is easy and can take place during a school break or in a short moment during the day.
Examples of small but meaningful actions:
- plant a seed or flower on school grounds
- write and share hopeful messages
- clean a small area in the schoolyard or nearby nature
- create a greeting or card for a senior or care home
- share your action online using #MinuteForHope and your local hashtag (e.g. #MinutepourLEspoir)
No registration is needed. The most important thing is to take part and show what your school stands for.

Pilot voor een profielwerkstukprijs van de wereldwinkel
Jaarlijkse HAVO/VWO profielwerkstuk prijs
In Nederland hebben wij momenteel rond de 170 Wereldwinkels. Het zijn vrijwilligersorganisaties, die door verkoop van producten volgens het fairtrade principe, ondernemers in ontwikkelingslanden stimuleren in ondernemerschap en ze zo in staat stellen te voorzien in hun levensonderhoud en dat van hun gezin en gemeenschap. Daarnaast zich in voor een betere en eerlijkere wereld door promotie, het vertellen van de verhalen, het lesgeven op scholen en participeren in dialogen en gesprekken over fairtrade en duurzaamheid.
De Wereldwinkels willen hier graag jongeren bij betrekken en hebben daarom besloten een jaarlijkse prijs uit te loven voor het beste profielwerkstuk over dit onderwerp.
Wij willen hierbij aansluiten op het profielwerkstuk programma, zoals dit is ingericht. Het kost dus weinig of geen extra moeite of tijd voor student of docent.
Wij willen graag dit jaar een pilot, door alle scholen in NL (of een kleinere groep) te vragen het beste profielwerkstuk van dit jaar van hun school te nomineren (wat uiteraard aansluit bij het concept en de randvoorwaarden zoals hierna geschetst). Deadline: 11 april. Daarvoor kun je mailen aan Voorzitter@wereldwinkelzoetermeer.nl
Voor de daaropvolgende eindexamengroep haken we graag aan op de eerstvolgende profielwerkstukronde, welke aftrapt in juni. We kunnen de prijs dan vooraf promoten en leerlingen vooraf aangeven aan welke voorwaarden hun werkstuk moet voldoen.
Behalve de geldprijs zullen wij ook een feestelijke prijsuitreiking organiseren, door de nominees en begeleidend docenten uit te nodigen en onze ambassadeur Babah Talaway de prijs uit te laten reiken.
De leerling zal ook geïnterviewd worden voor de Fairtrade Glossy, die in September uitkomt en in alle Wereldwinkels te verkrijgen zal zijn. Ook zullen we er op social media de nodige aandacht aan besteden. Een mooie promotie voor de leerling en de school!

- Meerwaarde: Geeft de Wereldwinkels een nieuw en fris inzicht in fairtrade, de waardeketen van producent tot consument, de verkoop via Wereldwinkels, de organisatie van Wereldwinkels en de perceptie en behoefte van de klant. Met dit nieuwe inzicht willen de Wereldwinkels bij de tijd blijven, meer impact maken voor een betere wereld en aansluiting vinden bij jongeren.
- Eigen woordgebruik (geen Chat-GTP)
- Goede layout, duidelijke en logische onderbouwing en conclusie/ advisering en een zinvolle en originele inhoud.
- Layout criteria : minimaal 18 A4, minimaal 7000 woorden

Masterclass Persvrijheid voor Jongeren – Schrijf je nu in!
Heeft jouw school interesse om zich te verdiepen in journalistiek, persvrijheid en vrijheid van meningsuiting? De UNESCO Jongerencommissie biedt nu een interactieve masterclass aan voor alle jongeren!
Tijdens een sessie van 1 uur en 20 minuten leren jongeren over het belang van persvrijheid, de impact van censuur en desinformatie, en de uitdagingen waarmee journalisten wereldwijd te maken hebben. Door quizzen, discussie en een interactief censuurspel ontdekken ze hoe vrije media bijdragen aan een sterke democratie én wat zij zelf kunnen doen om persvrijheid te beschermen.
Deze masterclass wordt mede mogelijk gemaakt door Free Press Unlimited, een organisatie die zich wereldwijd inzet voor onafhankelijke journalistiek en persvrijheid. Zonder vrije pers is er geen eerlijke en transparante samenleving. Daarom is het cruciaal dat jongeren leren hoe ze desinformatie herkennen, betrouwbare bronnen vinden en zelf bijdragen aan een open en eerlijke informatiestroom.

Werelderfgoed in Nederland
De Stichting Werelderfgoed Nederland heeft de verantwoordelijkheid om de bewustwording van het Werelderfgoed te vergroten, de belangen van het Werelderfgoed te behartigen, kennis te verwerven, te ontwikkelen en te delen en om gezamenlijk naar buiten toe op te treden. Dit alles om ervoor te zorgen dat de afzonderlijke Werelderfgoedlocaties hun taken optimaal kunnen uitvoeren. Stichting Werelderfgoed Nederland beschermt en behoudt het Werelderfgoed voor overdracht aan huidige en komende generaties.
De Stichting heeft een werkgroep educatie en organiseert geregeld bijeenkomsten, live en online. Ze hebben heel graag meer contact met de Unesco-scholen.

De Koningsspelen zijn dit jaar op donderdag 17 april. Organiseer voor kleuters op het schoolplein of in het speellokaal ook een gezellige spelletjesdag speciaal in het kader van Koningsspelen. De kinderen maken een spellenronde en komen zo op een actieve manier in contact met alle dertien Werelderfgoederen in het Koninkrijk der Nederlanden!

GenZ en Werelderfgoed (bijeenkomst bij NHL Stenden)
Graag nodigen we jullie uit voor een Werelderfgoedcafé bij NHL Stenden, donderdag 27 maart aanstaande. Een speciale bijeenkomst voor, met en over jongeren van ongeveer 14 tot en met 27 jaar. Jij bent ook van harte welkom!

Uitnodiging Gen Z x World Heritage Event
Het betrekken van jonge generaties, zoals Generation Z, is cruciaal voor de duurzaamheid van de erfgoedsector. Zonder hun betrokkenheid lopen (Wereld)erfgoedsites het risico hun waarde en relevantie te verliezen in de ogen van toekomstige generaties. Internationale Heritage Experience Management-studenten van NHL Stenden onderzoeken hoe actieve participatie, co-creatie en bezoek van Generation Z aan Werelderfgoed in het Koninkrijk der Nederlanden kan worden aangemoedigd.
De uitkomsten worden donderdagmiddag 27 maart gepresenteerd tijdens een Werelderfgoedcafé bij NHL Stenden in Leeuwarden. Tijdens deze middag gaan dieper in op het thema Gen Z en Werelderfgoed, aan de hand van een presentatie en een panelgesprek. Aan de hand van de presentaties van de studenten en het panelgesprek gaan we verder met elkaar in gesprek. NHL Stenden en Stichting Werelderfgoed Nederland nodigen studenten, (Wereld)erfgoedbetrokkenen en geïnteresseerden uit hierbij aanwezig te zijn.

IGO is a project-based competition designed to foster creativity and innovation among students aged 10 to 18. Following the success of IGO 2024, with 449 participants from 134 schools across 48 countries, we are excited to expand this initiative in 2025.
We would be honoured to collaborate with you to engage member schools in IGO 2025. This partnership would provide students a unique platform to present their projects reflecting the values of UNESCO.
To participate in the International Greenwich Olympiad (IGO), students can submit projects in various scientific and non-scientific categories listed below:

Movies that Matter organiseert Educatiefestival 2025: Interactieve filmvertoningen voor een rechtvaardige wereld.
Movies that Matter nodigt docenten en leerlingen opnieuw uit voor het jaarlijkse Movies that Matter Educatiefestival. Op woensdag 19 en donderdag 20 maart 2025 in het EYE Filmmuseum in Amsterdam, en van maandag 24 maart t/m vrijdag 28 maart 2025 in Filmhuis Den Haag en Theater aan het Spui worden jongeren meegenomen in de wereld van mensenrechten via indrukwekkende films en interactieve gesprekken rondom actuele maatschappelijke thema’s.

World Cultural Heritage Symposium Greece

Good morning from a sunny Athens! I hope my message finds you well.
I am very pleased to inform you that the 6th World Cultural Heritage Youth Symposium is officially announced, and registration are now opened! It will take place from 26-30 March 2025.
The Symposium is organized by the Hellenic Cultural and Educational Club for UNESCO with the support of the Hellenic National Commission for UNESCO.
The deadline for the submission of the participation form is the 10th December 2024.

The Symposium 2024 was a real success! 28 ASPnet schools from 14 countries have participated. It was a great experience for teachers and students of our network.
The 6th World Cultural Heritage Youth Symposium 2025 focuses on the role of Arts in Culture and invites students and teachers to engage in the topic by participating into various activities under the title “Arts and Cultural Heritage”. It is built on the UNESCO program “Arts for transformative education: a guide for teachers from the UNESCO Associated Schools Network”, launched in Athens in 2024.

Alone or in a group, create a work based on a given subject, expressing yourself in the artistic discipline of your choice (visual, sound and linguistic arts).

There's no jury, no ranking, no prizes. Just the pleasure of creating and sharing.
The validated works will be broadcast from June 20 to 29, 2025 on our website during the “online” event, which will bring several months of preparation to a close. There is also an option for a “live” festival, from June 27 to 29, 2025, during which the selected works will be shown, exhibited, projected or represented in the host cities in France, as well as in French representation sites around the world.

Seeds of hope for a better future
To support UNESCO’s Sustainable Development Goals1 and key action areas - promoting peace,
sustainability and intercultural learning and heritage, especially in the context of the challenges of climate
change. The Seeds of Hope project will inspire young people from the UNESCO ASPnet group of 12,000
educational institutions across 182 countries and key partners (educators, artists, scientists and
others) to create legacy arts and culture projects for the benefit of local, national and international
communities.

The UN on your doorstep
The UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN), the Centre for Sustainable Development at Columbia University, Mission 4.7, SDGsToday and the Global Schools Program are thrilled to announce the launch of UN at Your Doorstep, a series of online live dialogues between today’s global leaders and tomorrow’s changemakers on how to tackle the 21st century’s complex sustainable development challenges.
Designed for high school assemblies, extra-curricular activities, Model UN clubs, community NGOs, and traditional classrooms, these dialogues offer a rare opportunity for young people to engage directly with world leaders and UN officials and focus on how young people can take action on the SDGs in their schools, homes and communities.
The first virtual live dialogue will take place on 23 October at 8:00am EDT, focusing on Youth Empowerment — because this initiative is designed for young people and, simply put, none of today’s global challenges can be solved without youth leading the way. It will feature Felipe Paullier, United Nation Assistant Secretary General for Youth Affairs, and Richa Gupta, Young Leader for the SDGs and Co-founder and CEO of Labhya, an India-based educational non-profit that partners with governments to impact the emotional well-being of 2.4 million vulnerable children across 22,000 public schools.
Inspired by the 8 big questions of the Ages of Globalization course, the dialogue will focus on:
- How youth have contributed to driving global-scale change for more peaceful, inclusive and sustainable societies in recent history; and
- What concrete actions youth can take to contribute to driving global-scale change to end poverty, save the environment, and to living peacefully and cooperatively.
Ahead of the session, young people can submit and upvote questions to Felipe and Richa to answer during the live session. After the session, participants can choose to stay on for a 20-minute “Peer Exchange,” where they’ll connect with other young people from around the world in smaller discussion groups.
The UN at Your Doorstep live dialogues are part of the Ages of Globalization, a new worldwide course that integrates world history, science, geography, and technology into an immersive educational adventure to prepare learners to tackle today’s complex sustainable development challenges.
The Ages of Globalization and the UN at Your Doorstep contribute towards SDG 4.7 and UNESCO’s ESDfor2030 Roadmap and is supported by UNESCO, the Sustainable Tourism Global Center, Hearst Foundations, the SDG Academy, Globe from Home, Compass Education and the Foundation for Environmental Education’s Young Reporters for the Environment.

Wedstrijd: when sound creates image
Spread the word to your Associated Schools: the 4th edition of the Week of Sound International School Competition ‘When Sounds Creates Image’ with the participation of the UNESCO Associated Schools Network, is now officially launched!
The theme for this 4th edition is "Listening to one another". A prerequisite for building peace through dialogue and respect!
Your schools have until midnight Paris time on 6 January 2025 to send in their videos!
Thanks to your strong commitment, the first three editions were a success, and I hope that the fourth will be just as successful, if not more so! - Over the 3 editions, we received more than 475 videos (including 210 in 2024) from 341 participating schools (including 128 in 2024) from 83 countries (including 31 in 2024).
The Grand Prize winner will receive 500 euros, the Jury Prize winner 300 euros and the Special Mention winner 100 euros. The names of the winners will remain confidential until the awards ceremony organized in partnership with the city of Cannes on 15 May 2025.

Kraanvogels voor de Nobelprijs
Commemorative Event for the Nobel Peace Prize Awarded to Nihon Hidankyo,
Japan Confederation of A- and H-Bomb Sufferers Organizations
“Paper Crane Event”
This year, the Japan Confederation of A- and H-Bomb Sufferers Organizations (Nihon Hidankyo) has been selected for the Nobel Peace Prize. To celebrate this achievement and to reflect on peace, we will hold a "Paper Crane Event" where participants will fold cranes to create a thousand cranes. While creating this artwork, students can contemplate on the symbol of hope and peace. We invite you to join us for this meaningful event. This event is being held in collaboration with the Nara Municipal Fushimi Elementary School, and the Omuta Local UNESCO Association Youth Team "With."
While reflecting on peace to ensure that nuclear weapons are never used again, participants will fold origami cranes and take a photo or record a 30-second video with a message, which will be uploaded to each school's homepage.

Peace Circle
The Peace Circle™ is a global initiative that combines peacebuilding, environmental sustainability, and world educational values by creating small, symbolic parks. Each park is designed around the planting of trees that represent core values like hope, love, and justice, fostering community engagement, biodiversity, and educational opportunities for people of all ages. These peaceful green spaces are meant to inspire unity, collaboration, and learning across diverse communities.
On 20 September, ambassadors, schoolchildren, and community members gathered to plant trees at the first Peace Circle™ in Finland. This event was a powerful demonstration of how environmental conservation and peacebuilding can unite communities and inspire future generations.

Our next inauguration is planned for Italy on 21 November, and we are excited to announce a call for cities to join our Peace Circle™ pilot program. We are inviting cities around the world, also those within the UNESCO ASPnet network, to apply to become a Peace Circle™ pilot city. This program offers a unique opportunity for cities to engage their communities in creating small, symbolic parks that enhance biodiversity, promote peace, and inspire environmental stewardship and education.
The deadline for the first call for cities is 30 October 2024. We would be grateful if you could share this opportunity with the cities and municipalities in your network. We believe that this partnership can create meaningful global connections and foster local action for peace, education, and sustainability. Here is the application page

Young Innovators (Bovenbouw Havo/VWO)
Het Young Innovators programma is een educatief programma om jongeren te betrekken in de duurzaamheidstransitie waar we als samenleving voor staan. Met een basis van systeemdenken en Challenge Based Learning dagen we scholieren in de bovenbouw havo/vwo uit om met innovatieve oplossingen te komen om de transitie naar een duurzame samenleving te realiseren. Het programma biedt contextrijk onderwijs waarin leerlingen werken aan vaardigheden waaronder communiceren, samenwerken, presenteren en onderzoeken. Met dit programma ondersteunen we docenten en scholen in het implementeren van het thema duurzaamheid binnen het curriculum.
In de meegestuurde flyer staat kort uitgelegd hoe het Young Innovators programma er uit ziet. Hieronder worden de uitdagingen waar de scholieren aan werken gepresenteerd. Deze worden vormgegeven met lokale organisaties en bedrijven en bieden daarmee contextrijk onderwijs.
- Regio Utrecht: Hoe betrek je bewoners bij klimaatadaptief waterbeheer?
Najaar 2023: Samen met het Hoogheemraadschap De Stichtse Rijnlanden vragen we leerlingen om mee te denken over hoe we bewoners kunnen betrekken in de transitie naar een duurzaam watersysteem.
- Regio Noord-Holland: Wat is de rol van scholieren in de transitie in naar een circulair textielsysteem?
Najaar 2023: Samen met de Dutch Sustainable Fashion week ontwerpen en pitchen scholieren in de regio Noord-Holland een plan over hoe zij kunnen bijdragen aan een circulair textielsysteem. Vragen die hierbij horen zijn: Hoe stimuleer je consumenten om minder te kopen? Hoe verleng je de levensduur van textiel? Wat kan jij hierin betekenen voor de omgeving waarin je leeft?
- Regio Noord-Brabant: Hoe ziet een maaltijd in 2050 eruit?
Voorjaar 2023: Samen met de Delta Agrifood Business onderzoeken scholieren in waar we in 2050 onze eiwitten uit vandaan halen. Gaan we over op een dieet van insecten? Maken we vaker vleesvervangers met lokale bonen in plaats van soja? Wat is de toekomst van het 3d printen van voedsel?
- Regio Zuid-Holland: Verdieping nader in te vullen.
Najaar 2023: In Zuid-Holland spelen veel thema's waaronder de haven, glastuinbouw en de indeling van steden. Eerder hebben scholieren uit de omgeving Rotterdam gewerkt aan het ontwerpen van een klimaatadaptief plein en een circulair watersysteem voor de Natuurstad Rotterdam. Het programma in deze regio is nog niet definitief en kan met scholen samen worden vormgegeven.
Bovenstaande thema's zijn de leidraad voor de uitvoer van het programma in 2023. Het team staat er open voor om in overleg met scholen het programma vorm te geven om het aan te laten sluiten bij de wensen.
Voor meer informatie is in de bijlage de flyer van het Young Innovators programma toegevoegd, maar schroom niet om contact op te nemen voor verdere toelichtingen of wanneer je met vragen zit.
- Optie tot Maatschappelijke Dienst Tijd (MDT)
Sinds 2023 onderzoekt het Young innovators team de mogelijkheid om het Young Changemakers traject (het vrijwillige follow-up programma na de Young Climathon) aan te bieden als Maatschappelijke Dienst Tijd. Dit is een vrijwillig traject waar leerlingen 30-50 uur zullen werken aan de casus van de Young Climathon. Een vereiste is dat een deel van deze uren onder reguliere lestijd valt. Het Young Changemaker inzetten als MDT biedt de school een aantal voordelen:
- Invulling van beroepsoriëntatie
- Invulling van leerling participatie
- Aanbieden van ervaringsgericht leren

Challenge duurzaamheid in het onderwijs
Heeft jouw leerling of student of heb jijzelf als docent een duurzaam idee voor jullie eigen school?
Klimaatverandering en de gevolgen die dit met zich meebrengt, zijn regelmatig onderwerp van gesprek. Ook in het klaslokaal.
Maar hoe kunnen we dit probleem aanpakken? Het antwoord op deze vraag is niet eenvoudig, maar oplossingen beginnen vaak dicht bij huis. Of school, in dit geval.
Waar zijn we naar op zoek? Wij zijn op zoek naar nieuwe, duurzame ideeën die helpen om de school of schoolomgeving duurzamer te maken. Het idee mag ook gaan over iets wat ervoor zorgt dat er meer gepraat wordt over duurzaamheid op jouw school. Je kan dus denken aan het organiseren van een activiteit, project en/of jongerenplatform waarbij duurzaamheid centraal staat.
Wat is er te winnen? De beste inzendingen ontvangen een financiële bijdrage om het plan uit te voeren.
• Voor de basisschool: 10 winnaars: €2.500 per inzending.
• Voor de middelbare school: 8 winnaars: €3.125 per inzending.
• Voor mbo-instellingen: € 4 winnaars: €6.250 per inzending
• Voor hbo- en wo-instellingen: 4 winnaars: €6.250 per inzending
Met deze challenge willen we een connectie maken met de klimaatdoelen van de Sustainable Development Goals. Dit zijn duurzame doelen die over de hele wereld bekend zijn om onder andere klimaatverandering aan te pakken. Zo kunnen we er wereldwijd voor zorgen dat generaties na ons ook op deze planeet kunnen wonen.
De focus ligt bij klimaatgerelateerde onderwerpen zoals biodiversiteit, circulaire economie, energie, water en milieu.
Voor wie is deze challenge?
Scholieren, studenten, onderwijspersoneel of vertegenwoordigers van deze groep kunnen een idee insturen.
Deze kunnen zich richten op het primair onderwijs (po/basisscholen), het speciaal onderwijs (so), het (speciaal) voortgezet onderwijs (middelbare scholen en vso), het middelbaar beroepsonderwijs (mbo) en het hoger onderwijs (ho/hbo en wo/universiteiten).
We moedigen docenten ook aan om hun creatieve voorstellen in samenwerking met leerlingen/ studenten in te dienen.
Planning
De deadline voor het inleveren van een idee is vrijdag 19 april.
De bekendmaking van de winnaars vindt plaats op 17 mei.

Dear Teachers,
XLIV Stefan Banach Secondary School invites you to join us in celebrating European Authors' Day, which is on March 25.
On this occasion, we want to organize an online meeting with various European schools during which we will read poetry. The plan is simple and will not require much work.
1. We meet online on March 25, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. (Polish time)
2. The meeting will last approximately 1 hour (depending on the number of participants)
3. Each school chooses one poet from their country.
4. Students prepare short information about the poet and one poem in the original version
and in English translation
5. During the online meeting, students from each school will briefly present information
about the selected poet and read or recite one poem in two language versions.
6. We encourage you to take photos and describe this event on your websites and
online platforms.

The Symposium 2024 at a glance
The Opening Ceremony will take place in Athens, at Pierce – The American College of Greece theater (as in 2023) on the 17th April 2024 at 18.30 (local time).
The delegations will depart to Ancient Olympia on the 18th April 2024 and they will return to Athens on the 21st April 2024. The estimated arrival time at Athens/ Athens International Airport on the 21st April is 14.00, so you are kindly requested not to book your air tickets for your return before 15.30.
Since the theme of the Symposium 2024 is “our Living Heritage” we have included in the program a workshop about the Mediterranean Diet and a visit to an Olive Mill and a Winery.
Also, after the sightseeing tour, delegations will not only have the time to see the town of Olympia, but they will also have the time to have lunch in the city at a restaurant of their choice (at their own expense - this lunch is not included in the travel fee). They will return by bus to the International Olympic Academy after lunch (more details will follow).
