Introduction

Welcome to this Wikiwijs! Hopefully, this will help you with your understanding of the verb tenses (=werkwoordstijden). And that's not all! During this Wikiwijs, you will learn how to tell others about your habits (=gewoontes), what you're doing at this moment, and can you see the difference between these two!

 

Goals

  • Na het afronden van deze Wikiwijs kan je de Present Simple herkennen en vervoegen in een gegeven zin, terwijl je vertelt over hobby's, gewoonten of dingen die je (niet) leuk vindt.
  • Ook kan je zelf een zin maken waarin je de Present Continuous op goede wijze gebruikt en vervoegt, terwijl je vertelt over wat je op dat moment aan het doen bent.

What does it look like?

How do we make the Present Simple?

  • Infinitive (+(e)s)
  • Remember the SHIT-rule! SHIT + s --> She/he/it + (e)s

When do we use it?

When do we use the Present Simple?

If something happens:

  • ALWAYS (a fact / a habit = gewoonte)
  • NEVER
  • REGULARLY

Examples

Danny calls his mum every day.

Charissa often talks to her students after class.

I don't wash my hair in the morning.

 

 

Bij de eerste zin is het een activiteit die altijd plaatsvindt. Danny belt zijn moeder namelijk elke dag. --> ALWAYS (a habit)

Bij de tweede zin gaat het om een activiteit die vaak (often) gebeurt. Often en regularly zijn synoniemen van elkaar, waardoor het automatisch bij REGULARLY hoort.

Bij de derde zin gaat het om een activiteit die nooit plaatsvindt. De persoon wast zijn/haar haren nooit in de ochtend. Waarschijnlijk gebeurt dit dus in de avond. --> NEVER

 

 

TIP! Some words always go together with the Present Simple, like every day, often, never, sometimes, every week etc.

What does it look like?

How do we make the Present Continuous?

  • Form of to be (am / are / is)
  • Infinitive + -ing

 

Bevestigend Ontkennend Vragend

I am playing a game right now.

 I'm not playing a game right now. Am I playing a game right now?
He is playing a game right now. She isn't playing a game right now. Is it playing a game right now?
We are playing a game right now. You aren't playing a game right now. Are they playing a game right now?

Bevestigende zinnen worden ook wel positive sentences genoemd.
Ontkennende zinnen worden ook wel negative sentences genoemd.

 

De uitzonderingen van de Present Continuous staan onder het kopje Exceptions bij Simple VS Continuous.

Something is happening RIGHT NOW.

Some words that go together with this tense are at this moment, right now, now.

You are doing this online lesson now.
Lizzy and Jonathan are jumping rope.
I can't talk, I'm driving home now!

Let vooral heel goed op de signaalwoorden en context bij het bedenken van de juiste werkwoordstijd! Gaat het over iets wat nu bezig is? Kies dan de Present Continuous.
