2 - The story
A Christmas Carol written by Charles Dickens is a story about the very grumpy Ebenezer Scrooge. The story was published in 1843 and is very well known. My favorite rendition of A Christmas Carol was done by the muppets. Ebenezer Scrooge meets 3 ghosts in this story, the ghost of the past, the ghost of the present and the ghost of a christmas yet to come. In this class we will zoom in on the ghost of the past. After the past we will continue the story in the next class.

The Ghost of Christmas Past visits Ebenezer in the middle of the night. She is going to take him back in time. Flying through old memories like flipping through a photo album. He sees himself growing up and perhaps making decisions he doesn't like very much after all.

Scrooge isn't a kind man, he's all about work and making a profit at all costs. The three ghosts of Christmas, ghost of Christmas past, ghost of Christmas present and the ghost of a Christmas yet to come are trying to save him from a time spend in hell with all the other greedy men. Write a story using the past tense about one of your own Christmas memories. Just like Scrooge was shown his memories, we’re going to dig into our own memories as well! Find a classmate and tell them your Christmas story. Check the correct usage of past tense in your story together.

Opdracht 1:
Schrijf een verhaal over een eigen kerst herinnering in de verleden tijd (past tense). Net zoals Scrooge uit A muppets Christmas Carol ga je even terug in de tijd. Vertel daarna je verhaal aan een klasgenoot. Samen controleer je de past tense in je verhaal.
Stap 1: Denk na over een Kerst herinnering ( gebruik je telefoon voor foto’s of praat met familie en/of vrienden als je er geen kan bedenken).

Assignment 2:
Translate “Flappie” by Youp van ‘t Hek to English and write it in the past tense. You are also allowed to pick another Christmas song if you translate or change it into the past tense. You can change as many lyrics as you want. Find a classmate and share you Christmas song. Check the correct usage of the past tense in your song together.
Step 1: Pick a song, or create your own using the past tense (past simple, past continuous, irregular verbs).

Vertaal “Flappie” door Youp van ’t Hek naar het Engels en zet het in de past tense. Je mag ook een ander kerstlied kiezen als je het maar vertaald of verandert naar de past tense. Je mag zoveel tekst veranderen als je wilt. Daarna presenteer je, je lied aan een klasgenoot. Controleer samen of je de past tense goed hebt gebruikt.

Make a presentation about the past tense in English, explaining the past tense like you’re a teacher. Make your own past tense test + key for your fellow students. Find a classmate to listen to your presentation and have them do your test. Check if you explained and used the past tense correctly together.
Step 1: Pick a fun way to present the past tense (poster, prezi, lessonup, powerpoint, a game)
Step 2: Write your explanation and make a test (max 10 question) + answers. Past simple, past continuous and irregular verbs should all be in test.
Step 3: Find a classmate to teach about the past tense and have them take your test
Step 4: Check if you explained and used the past tense correctly
