Step 1 - Listening

Family relationships
You are going to listen to a conversation between Carl and Pancho. They are talking about Pancho’s family. First read the questions:

  • Where is Pancho from?
  • How many brothers and sisters does Pancho have?
  • What is his father's job?
  • What does his mother do?
  • Which thing does Pancho not say?

Step 2 - Reading

Mary’s family
You are going to read a story about Mary's life.
After that you are going to tell if the following statements are true.

  • Mary has got a spider.
  • Mary's mother is 38 years old.
  • Nick is Sean's father.
  • Sean has got a sister.
  • Mary has got two brothers.
  • Tiny is a horse.
  • John is a bus driver.
  • Tom is Peter's friend.
  • Fluffy is a cat.

Now you are going to read the story and do the exercises.

Mary is ten years old. She is from Dorset. Her hair is long and brown. She has got brown eyes.
She has got a cat and a dog. Their names are Pat and Fluffy. Pat, the dog, has got a small house in the garden.
Mary's cat, Fluffy, is three years old.
Mary's mother is Jane. She is a teacher. She's thirty-six years old. Jane's hair is blonde and her eyes are brown. Jane hasn't got a pet.
She has a friend. Her name is Laura.
Her husband is Nick. He is thirty-eight. He's a bus driver. He has got brown hair and blue eyes. Nick has got a horse. Its name is Lightning. Nick's friends are bus drivers. They are Tom, Charles and John.
Jane and Nick have got three children: Mary, Sean and Peter.
Sean is six and Peter is twelve years old. The children are pupils.
Sean's hair is blonde, Peter's hair is brown. The boys have got blue eyes.
Peter's pet is a hamster. Its name is Tiny. She is so small.
Sean has got a goldfish. Its name is Goldie.

 

Step 3 - Vocabulary

To be able to do all the assignments correctly, you need to know some words and sentences.
For each theme there are word lists ready in Wozzol, with which you can practice:

  • Study the vocabulary. (10 minutes)
  • Do the exercise.

Tip!
There are many ways to study vocabulary. You can read the words aloud or copy them. The most important rule is never to spend more than 10 minutes studying words. Every minute you spend longer is a waste of time.

Expressions: If you need some extra help, go to your Wozzol account and take another look at the chunks.
Now you are going to try to have a conversation with someone else.

  1. Find someone to work with and use the speech card A or B.
  2. Write down a couple of words to help you during the conversation.
  3. Practise your conversation at least twice.

After practising twice, do the following things:

  1. Find another pair to work with.
  2. Act out your conversation.
  3. Let them write down feedback for you.
  4. Let them act out their conversation and write down feedback for them.
  5. Discuss what things were good and what you can do better next time.

  • Take some time to look things up if you need.
  • You can write down notes on your speech card but keep them short!
  • Practise the conversation several times with a classmate.
  • Take at least ten minutes to do so.

An email about your family.
You are going to write a message to your Facebook friend from London.
Use the following prompts:

  • Say hello to your friend (think of a name).
  • Write about your family.
  • Give information about your mother (what does she look like, age, work ?).
  • Give information about your father (what does he look like, age, work ?).
  • Tell something about your brothers and/or sisters.
  • Think of a question you could ask your friend.
  • Ask your pen pal to write about his/her family.
  • End your message.
