Lazybones

You are going to listen to 'Lazybones', a song by Ben Eyler.

  • Listen to the song.
  • While listening, think about the following question: Put these locations in the order in which they appear in the song.

Rugby

Rugby is one of the most popular sports in Great-Britain. It’s a bit like American football, which is played a lot in the USA.

You are going to visit a site with information about rugby.

Voorzetsels gebruik je om, bijvoorbeeld, aan te geven waar iets is of wanneer iets gebeurd. Soms hoort een voorzetsel bij een werkwoord.

  • Welk voorzetsel van tijd is in het Engels echt anders dan in het Nederlands?
  • Voor welke twee Nederlands voorzetsels van plaats vind je telkens twee verschillende Engelse mogelijkheden in de theorie?
  • Leg met een voorbeeld uit de theorie uit waarom het belangrijk is het juiste voorzetsel bij een werkwoord te gebruiken.

Step 5 - Speaking

A talk about an individual game or sport

Work with a classmate. Together, give a talk about an individual sport or game. Use the description below.

Preparation

  1. Decide which individual sport (e.g. athletics, gymnastics, e-sports) or game (e.g. chess, checkers) you want to talk about.
  2. Write down what you already know about your subject. Research what you don’t know.
  3. Plan your talk and include a short introduction and a conclusion. Make notes or flash cards if you want.
  4. Divide the roles: who is going to say what?

Giving the talk

  1. Find another pair to work with.
  2. Give your talk.
  3. Ask your classmates to write down feedback for you.
  4. Next, let them give their talk and write down feedback for them.
  5. Discuss what went well and what you can do better next time.

  • om welke sport het gaat;

  • wat de belangrijkste regels zijn;

  • hoe je wint;

Bedenk zelf ook nog iets wat je over de sport of het spel wilt vertellen.

Team sports vs. individual sports

You are going to write an essay about team sports versus individual sports.

  • Start with an introduction. What are you going to write about?
  • Name two positive things about team sports.
  • Name one negative thing about team sports.
  • Name two positive things about individual sports.
  • Name one negative thing about individual sports.
  • End with a conclusion. What, in your opinion, is the better choice? Explain your choice.
  • Check your writing for grammatical and spelling mistakes. Pay special attention to the correct use of prepositions (voorzetsels).
