Present Simple - extra exercise
Are you having trouble understanding the Present Simple? Don't worry! Because it's actually quite simple if you keep these rules in mind.
We gebruiken the Present Simple wanneer we het hebben over:
-feiten --> I am a boy/girl. / You have two hands and two feet. / He has dark hair.
-gewoontes --> Tim has breakfast in the morning. / School always starts at half past eight. / I sometimes ride my bike to school.
-regelmaat --> I buy groceries on Tuesdays. / We celebrate my birthday every year. / They go on a walk every evening.
Let goed op de signaalwoorden (onderstreepte woorden in de voorbeeldzinnen) die regelmaat aangeven. Hierdoor weet je of de zin in de Present Simple staat/moet staan.
Meer voorbeelden van signaalwoorden: usually / never / often / frequently / every day/year/week
Hoe vervoegen we het ookalweer?
De Present Simple is heel makkelijk om te vervoegen want het is bijna altijd hetzelfde (op een aantal uitzonderingen na).
I stam --> (to run) run (to drive) drive
you stam --> run drive
he/she/it (SHIT regel) stam+s --> runs drives
they stam --> run drive
we stam --> run drive
En de uitzonderingen dan?
Bij woorden die eindigen op -y, waarvan de voorlaatste letter een medeklinker is, krijgt de he/she/it vorm op het einde -ies.
To try/to fly/to cry/to fry/to dry zijn hier voorbeelden van.
I fly cry
You fly cry
He/she/it flies cries
They fly cry
We fly cry
Volgende uitzondering: Werkwoorden met de SIS-klank
Werkwoorden die eindigen met een sis-klank krijgen -es op het einde bij de he/she/it vorm.
De SIS-klank heeft meerdere vormen:
-to watch ---> I watch / you watch / he/she/it watches / they watch / we watch
-to fix ---> I fix / you fix / he/she/it fixes / they fix / we fix
-to kiss ---> I kiss / you kiss / he/she/it kisses / they kiss / we kiss
-to fish ---> I fish / you fish / he/she/it fishes / they fish / we fish
Laatste uitzonderingen: de werkwoorden 'to be' en 'to have'

(to be) heeft 3 verschillende vormen: am/ (to have) i.p.v. havs schrijven we hier has bij he/she/it

We gebruiken de Present Continuous om over dingen te praten die nu gebeuren.
-I am driving my car to work.
-I am listening to music on my iPod.
-They are walking on the other side of the road.
De Present Continuous vorm je door een geschikte vorm van 'to be' te gebruiken (I/you/he-she/-it/we/they) en een actiewerkwoord dat eindigt op -ing.
Ook moet je letten op signaalwoorden. Deze geven je een indicatie dat het nu gebeurt.
Voorbeelden zijn: now / at the moment / currently
Laten we de uitzonderingen niet vergeten.
Werkwoorden die eindigen op -e --> de -e verdwijnt en het krijgt -ing op het einde. (to give / to like / to have / to make / to write enz.)
We are having (to have) dinner
The police officer is giving me a ticket.
Uitzondering #2
Werkwoorden die eindigen met een klinker+medeklinker --> medeklinker word verdubbeld en daarachter komt -ing.
Voorbeelden van zulke werkwoorden: to cut / to stop / to drop / to chat / to put enz.
I am stopping the car
The girls in the back of the classroom are chatting noisily.
My mother is dropping me off at the gym.
