Class 1: The travel agency
Toerisme is een booming business! In deze module ga jij je inleven in de rol van travel agent, je maakt weloverwogen keuzes voor je klanten, scant teksten en leert een paar dingen over goedkoop reizen in de bruisende stad Londen.
Exercise 1
Lees de volgende tekst, zoek de vetgedrukte woorden op in een woordenboek en schrijf de betekenis op in je schrift in je eigen woorden:
Your first day in London!
"Let’s start by getting the big ticket items done on the first day! Your friends at home will wonder what’s wrong with you if you go all the way to London and don’t see Big Ben, so let’s start there! Big Ben costs nothing to look at, so have a gawk, snap your photos, and have a look around you. Notice anything? Yep, you’re staring straight at one of the most important landmarks in the United Kingdom, the Houses of Parliament. You can tour the building, watch debates, or grab a snack.
Once you’re done admiring the architecture (and had a look at Westminster Abbey since you’re in the neighbourhood), nip around the corner to Horse Guards Parade, where hopefully you can catch the Changing of the Guards. It’s free and a great English tradition! Don't forget to have a look around the corner at Downing Street. If you see anyone famous coming out of a little black door with a Number 10 on it, lucky you! You’ve spotted the Prime Minister!
Next up: The Queen! Take a 15-20 minute walk down The Mall, and you’ve arrived at Buckingham Palace! If the flag’s up, she’s in residence. If it’s not, well, the building is pretty majestic on its own! Have a walk around, make funny faces at the guards if you must, and then hop on the Jubilee Line from Green Park and head to Waterloo Station.
Get ready to oohand ahh, we’re headed to the London Eye! Online prices for The Eye are a bit cheaper, so hopefully you’ve booked ahead. The trip around the wheel lasts for about thirty minutes, and you’re probably starving by now, so grab a quick bite at one of the vendors or restaurants that dot the South Bank and pat yourself on the back for a day well spent!
Rest up, you’ve got another big day ahead of you tomorrow!"

Instructions
Vandaag gaan jullie een kijk-/luisteropdracht maken. Voordat we dit gaan doen, gaan jullie kennismaken met een aantal luisterstrategieën. Dit zijn tips en trucs om je luistervaardigheid te verbeteren. We gaan ze bespreken in de klas. Na de les kun je ze thuis herlezen.
Voor je gaat luisteren
Lees altijd eerst de vragen door, zodat je weet waar je op moet letten.
Bereid je naar aanleiding van de vragen voor op het soort fragment dat je te horen gaat krijgen. Bijvoorbeeld een nieuwsbericht of een reclame (korte fragmenten), een interview of gesprek (langere fragmenten).
Tijdens het luisteren
Luister goed naar het begin van het fragment. Hierin wordt vaak veel informatie gegeven over waar je precies naar gaat luisteren.
Raak niet in paniek als je niet alles verstaat, maar richt je op wat je wel begrijpt en probeer daarmee de vragen zo goed mogelijk te beantwoorden.

Als je een antwoord niet weet, ga dan voor je eerste ingeving.
Probeer meerkeuzevragen zo snel mogelijk te beantwoorden, zodat je verder kunt met het (her)lezen van de volgende vraag.
