B) Create your profile

Who are you?

In this section you will have to create a profile for your chosen character.

So you are going to create a "real" historical person who lived in the Roman times!

Go to Google Classroom and work in the document 'Life in Roman times', shared by your teacher.

Your profile consists out of the following elements:

- Pictures (Maximum three different pictures which make clear who you are.)

- Address

- Hobbies

- A life quote (or motto)

- Dream(s) / ambition(s)

Even though your profile should be historically correct, that does not mean you can not make it funny!

C) Research

In part C, your main goal is to research what the life of your character probably was like in the Roman times.

First:
Formulate four questions.
What do you want to know about your character?
For example:

  • What does your character do for a living (find out in detail)?
  • Where does he live?
  • What does he/she do in his/her free time?

Make sure that you discuss at least three different Roman cultural elements.
Do you have any doubts about what Roman culture is? Use your book or ask your teacher.

Second:
Search for reliable sources and information to answer your questions.

Important: if you have 'good' research questions, you have to look up information!
If you can answer the questions by heart it shows you are not learning something new!

Tips:
if you are using an online search engine, then use keywords.
also look at who and when the website (source) was made.
add' history for kids' to your search prompt.
do not use scholieren.com!

Third: Write the answers to your research questions down in your OWN words in the work document (in Classroom).
Important: Don't forget to note down the sources you have used (for what part of your text.)

- Tip: Use in-text referencing. Check the source annotation document shared in Classroom.

Fourth, and last: read what you have written (typed).
Did you use capital letters?
Correct language mistakes.
Is it clear enough?

D) Output - show what you have learned!

For this part you will work together with a peer (classmate). You teacher will match you to someone in class.

Use your research to create a output or final product to show what you have learned.

Some ideas for what a final product could be:
- Diary

- Movie (The life of ...)

- Vlog

- Cartoon
- Interactive poster
- Newspaper
- News broadcast
- Song or rap
- Theatre play

Tip: If you have another idea for a final product, discuss this with your teacher!

After you have made your choice, you first have to create a work plan in your work document:

1) Teammate(s)

2) Materials

3) Planning

4) Language check

5) Be creative!

E) Reflect

Write a paragraph (± 100 words) in which you answer the following questions:

  • What did you like about this assignment?
  • What would you do differently next time?
  • Would you have liked it if you were that person in Roman times? Explain your answer.
  • Can you compare your character to someone from our time?
If yes, with whom? If not, why is comparing difficult?

Write your reflection in your work document!

F) Checklist

Your document should contain the following parts before you hand everything in:

B. Profile

C. Research

D. Work plan & output

E. Reflection

Tip: Check your use of English! Make sure the lay-out is clear and that the information is in the correct order.
