Opdracht 1: A dancer's life
A dancer’s life
Priya
I work as a dancer, and I’m also studying part-time. I practise most days and have to do my college work, so I can’t always go out with my friends at weekends, but that’s fine. We text each other every day. I mostly dance in musicals, but in the future I’m hoping to start jazz dance. My mum always comes to watch me on stage. She’s my biggest fan! Being a dancer isn’t easy, but I want to do it as long as I can.
Zoe
There are dancers of all ages in my dance company and every year we go on international tours together. My cousin also dances with me. She’s been a dancer for seven years and people everywhere know her now. She was a jazz dancer in the past, but loves what we do now. I don’t usually feel worried before I dance in front of others – I know I’m good! But that’s only because I try so hard. I spend about three hours dancing every day.
Heike
I come from a family of dancers so maybe it’s not surprising I’m one too. I’m in a hip-hop group at the moment, but actually I can dance to any music – even jazz! I’m the youngest member of my dance group. Before each show, I think of everything that might go wrong, but I try hard to tell myself it’ll all be OK. We dance all over the country, so I’m away from home almost every day and I miss my friends a lot.
Opdracht 2: Boulder City girl becomes BMX world champion at 9 years old!
Isabella Smith is proof that good things come in small packages. Even though she is just 9, she is a veteran in the sport of BMX racing, which she started when she was 3.
“Our neighbors across the street did BMX and said we should try it out,” Isabella said. “I thought about mountain biking, but I really liked BMX. I really like being outside and meeting new people and riding on the different tracks.” She said.
Isabella got her start at the BMX track at Veterans’ Memorial Park. Her father Alex Smith, a 2007 Boulder City High School grad, was a successful motocross rider.
“She started racing locally at the age of 3. But at the national level, she started at 5.” said her mom. “At 6 is when she really took off. That year, she was ranked No. 6 in the country, and at 7 she was national champion.”
Anabel Smith said she had some mixed feelings when her daughter decided to get into BMX racing. “We tried to get her to do gymnastics and dance, but her passion was bikes,” she said. “All she wanted to do was be on her bike. Injuries can happen in anything you do. She broke her wrist one year. It can be a little scary, but she enjoys it so much.”
The BMX race schedule lasts almost the entire year, which has meant the Smith family is on the road a lot, traveling from one competition to another. This has included California, Tennessee, Georgia, Maryland, Missouri, Texas and Florida.
There’s a national race almost every week, Anabel Smith said.
Anabel proudly showed a video of the race along with the excitement of the announcer. The finals consist of one lap around the track. Isabella was in the preferred inside lane (or gate); next to her was the defending world champion, Remy Sessa.
“I was just ready to go,” Isabella said about that final race. “But we started freaking out because it started to rain.”
Once the championship race started, Isabella quickly found herself in seventh place but regained her composure, took the lead and won the world championship.
Even though she’s just 9, the five-time defending state champ and now world champion has her sights set on something even bigger.
“I want to be in the Olympics,” she said. She told us that her idol is Olympic champion Elise Willoughby. “That’s my goal.”

Opdracht 1: Everything you need to know about the European Championship 2024!
The biggest tournament in European football is on.
The European Championship (or Euros for short) is an international tournament for teams from Europe. There will be two home nations playing in the tournament - after England and Scotland both qualified for this summer's competition.
But what can we expect and which countries should we be looking out for?
Here's everything you need to know about Euro 2024...
Where is Euro 2024 taking place?
Three-time winners Germany are the host nation for this summer's tournament - the 17th edition of the competition. West Germany hosted the tournament back in 1988, however 2024 will be the first time the country has hostedthe European Championship since East and West Germany reunited in October 1990.
Which cities are hosting Euro 2024 matches?
There will be 51 games staged across 10 stadiums over the course of the month.
Germany have 10 host cities for this summer's tournament:
Euro 2024 host cities and venues
Berlin: Olympiastadion (70,000 capacity)
Cologne: Cologne Stadium (47,000)
Dortmund: BVB Stadion Dortmund (66,000)
Dusseldorf: Dusseldorf Arena (47,000)
Frankfurt: Frankfurt Arena (48,000)
Gelsenkirchen: Arena AufSchalke (50,000)
Hamburg: Volksparkstadion Hamburg (50,000)
Leipzig: Leipzig Stadium (42,000)
Munich: Munich Football Arena (67,000)
Stuttgart: Stuttgart Arena (54,000)
Is there a Euro 2024 mascot?
Yes, there is! Meet Albärt - Euro 2024's official mascot. Albärt the teddy bear is the official mascot for Euro 2024. Organisers decided to choose a teddy bear as a tribute to the popular children's toy, which is said to have originated in Germany at the beginning of the 20th century. Albärt was chosen through a vote, involving schoolchildren from across Europe.
Who are the current champions?
Italy are the defending champions, they won the previous tournament which took place in 2021. The result meant that Italy held the trophy to take their second Euros title. The country also has four World Cup wins.
Which countries are taking part?
As hosts, Germany automatically qualified for Euro 2024. The tournament will begin with a group stage consisting of six groups of four teams.
Here are this year's groups:
Euro 2024 groups
Group A: Germany, Scotland, Hungary, Switzerland
Group B: Spain, Croatia, Italy, Albania
Group C: Slovenia, Denmark, Serbia, England
Group D: Poland, Netherlands, Austria, France
Group E: Belgium, Slovakia, Romania, Ukraine
Group F: Turkey, Georgia, Portugal, Czech Republic
What is the name of the Euro trophy and when was it created?
The official name of the Euro trophy is the Henri Delaunay Cup.
It's named after Uefa's first general secretary who came up with the idea of having a European competition for national teams. The original Henri Delaunay trophy was presented at the first ever Euros tournament in 1960, however the trophy that's currently given out is actually a different cup. Uefa decided that they wanted to improve on the quality and size of the trophy as they felt the original one was too small - so a new trophy was commissioned and made, ready for the Euro 2008 finals.
Which countries are favourites to win Euro 2024?
France, who closely missed out on winning the World Cup in 2022, are one of the favourites to go all the way in Germany. But it won't be easy as there are plenty of other teams hoping to become European champions. Italy will be looking to defend the title they won in 2021, and England who were runners-up three years ago, will be aiming to go one better this time round. And finally, Germany will have the advantage of home support and are also expected to do well this summer.
Opdracht 2: Let's meet the youngest stars of Euro 2024!
Euro 2024 is a chance for the biggest stars in the world to show off their skills - but there's always a young player who makes their on the big stage.
As well as the usual superstar names, there are plenty of talented youngsters hoping for the chance to showcase their abilities on the pitch. But who are the players coming through the ranks who could shine this summer? Let's take a look at some of the young stars to look out for in Germany.
Cole Palmer - England
Age: 22
Position: Midfielder
Club: Chelsea
Cole Palmer has had an amazing debut season with Chelsea since his move from Manchester City last September.
He scored 22 goals and provided 11 assists in 33 league games - and his incredible form also earned him the "Premier League Young Player of the Season Award."
He also netted his first goal for the Three Lions on his first international start against Bosnia-Herzegovina in England's Euro 2024 warm-up friendly earlier this month.
Lamine Yamal - Spain
Age: 16
Position: Forward
Club: Barcelona
Lamine Yamal is widely seen as one of the rising young talents in world football, breaking all sorts of records at club and national level.
He made his Barcelona debut at the age of 15 and became the youngest goalscorer in La Liga history, aged just 16 years and 87 days.
He's also set a new record as youngest player and scorer for Spain - and, if they make it all the way at the Euros, then Lamine will turn 17 the day before the final.
Arda Güler - Turkey
Age: 19
Position: Midfielder
Club: Real Madrid
Another young star who has broken records to become the youngest goalscorer for their country is Arda Guler - whose skills have earned him the nickname of the 'Turkish Messi'.
He signed for Real Madrid last year after apparently having beaten off interest from clubs including Arsenal, Bayern Munich and Paris St-Germain.
Guler is versatile enough to play in a number of attacking roles and his close control and dribbling skills could well make him one to watch this summer.
Xavi Simons - Netherlands
Age: 21
Position: Midfielder
Club: RB Leipzig (on loan from Paris Saint-Germain)
Xavi may only be 21 years old but the rising Dutch star has already played for the likes of PSG and Barcelona - where he spent nine years at the famous La Masia youth academy.
During his time there he became one of the Spanish club's most highly-rated young players and with his skills and versatility, playing as an attacking midfielder and left and right-winger, it's easy to see why.
Xavi has represented and scored for the Netherlands at youth level, but has yet to find the back of the net with the senior side. Could Euro 2024 be the turning point in his international career?
Florian Wirtz - Germany
Age: 21
Position: Midfield
Club: Bayer Leverkusen
In May, Bayer Leverkusen became the first German team to go an entire Bundesliga season unbeaten - and one of the key players in their squad is Florian Wirtz.
He scored 18 goals and 19 assists in 47 games this season to help his side to the top, and according to rumours, Real Madrid are reportedly keeping a close eye on the youngster.
A great attacking midfielder who can also play as a right-winger, it seems like footballing talent runs in Florian's large family - he has nine siblings and his elder sister Juliane is also a professional player.
Warren Zaïre-Emery - France
Age: 18
Position: Midfielder
Club: Paris Saint-Germain
Another history maker is Warren Zaire-Emery, who became France's youngest player in over a century to play and score for the national team.
In August 2022, he made his professional debut for PSG, becoming the club's youngest ever player, and he recently extended his contract with the club which will see him there for the next five years.
Strong and quick on the ball, Warren was born in Paris and raised only a few miles away from fellow countryman Kylian Mbappe. It seems that 18-year-old has a few things in common with the superstar striker.
Jeremy Doku - Belgium
Age: 22
Position: Midfielder
Club: Manchester City
It's not easy making your mark when you sign for a huge club like Manchester City, but Jeremy Doku has certainly been turning heads since he completed his £55.4m move to England last year.
His speed, power and technical ability helped the Blues to another Premier League victory this season.
And he's no stranger to his national side - playing for Belgium at every youth level since the under-15s and joining the senior squad in 2020.
