Instructions for Teachers


  • explain the digital divide in its early form (internet access)
    • you can use the network effect (the original, literal one: in dense cities it is more profitable to lay fiber-optics, etc) as an example of a vicious cycle
    • use the figures from the recommended reading, don't be afraid to labor on this point, the early internet subscriber numbers are very interesting
  • explain the 8 aspects of the digital divide (see slides)
  • generate discussion/brainstorming on how the spread of internet connecticity and the generated digital divide might be analogous with AI adoption
  • present the slides to the students primed by the discussion regarding the above point and discuss
