This lesson is mostly about revising your knowledge about PAST TENSES, but there are some writing exercises mixed in as well.

How do we make Past Simple Negative?

Like the Present Simple, we need to use the verb "TO DO" and "NOT". But "TO DO" is an irregular verb (sterk werkwoord) in English, so we need to change it. Check the example

 

EXAMPLE:

 

We didn't want to do homework

She didn't want to walk the dog

 

 

 

Common mistakes

A common mistake that students make is this:

 

We didn't wanted to do homework

 

THIS IS WRONG. You only change "don't" to "didn't"

Another mistake students make is that they change "didn't" to something else. Some examples your teacher saw:

 

We doedn't want to do homework

We didedn't want to do homework

 

DIDN'T is always DIDN'T

I didn't want

you didn't want

he/she/it didn't want

they didn't want

you didn't want

we didn't want

 

Past Simple Question

How do we make Past Simple Question?

Like the Present Simple, we need to use the verb "TO DO". But "TO DO" is an irregular verb (sterk werkwoord) in English, so we need to change it. Check the example

 

EXAMPLE:

 

Did we want to do homework?

Did she walk the dog often?

REMEMBER!

we only have DID in PAST SIMPLE QUESTIONS.
