EN - My Future is Now: Taking Responsibility for Myself and Others (A2-B2)

0. Intro

  • Inhoud: Je gaat schrijf opdrachten en een essay/betoog maken vanuit research op Engels niveau A2-B2. Je gaat ook een vlog maken in het Engels.
  • Aantal XM: 10, 15 als je naar The Relay op 2 of 3 juni komt.
  • Tijd: deze quest zou rond de 10 uren kosten voor de 10 XMs en 15 voor de 15 XMs. Je kan natuurlijk meer tijd insteken of minder maar je moet wel genoeg doen om de Quest goed af te ronden (zie rubric).
  • De Quest wordt begeleid door meneer Baldwin (blue) en meneer Esmeijer (red).
  • Je doet deze Quest zelfstandig. Voor de 15 XMs variant zijn er speciale bloX van 15:00 tot 17:00 op 2 juni (Red) en 3 juni (blue).
  • Je gaat aan de slag met Vindingrijkheid: hoe kan je problemen vanuit een andere land oplossen? en Reflectie: Je reflecteren op hoe je eigen land reageert op problemen in het maatschappij.

Waar gaat deze quest over?

Deze quest gaat over problemen die vaak voor komen in het maatschappij en hoe jullie als de nieuwe generatie deze problemen goed kunnen oplossen.

Hij hoort bij het domein talen - Engels.

Je leert verschillende methoden om je ideeën over problemen in het maatschappij te verbeteren. Je doet dit via schrijven en praten in het Engels.

VERWACHTING VOORDAT JE BEGINT

Deze quest wordt ondersteund met een bloX en een chatgroep via Teams.

  • Zorg dat je jezelf inschrijft voor de bloX (soms gebeurt dit automatisch, maar niet altijd)

Deze quest levert jou 10 eXplore miles als je hem helemaal doorloopt, alle stappen zet en alles op tijd levert. Er is een kans om 15 XMs in totaal te halen voor 5-7 leerlingen die mee willen doen op een Relay waar je een andere land helpt, via een webinaar online, om zijn maatschappelijk problemen op te lossen.

Write your comparative essay:

First, watch this video and decide whether you are going to write a beginner, intermediate or advanced comparative essay. Remember, you are comparing societal problems in the Netherlands and another country, so your essay should also try to answer: how can these problems be solved? So remember to compare the two problems in the counties but also offer up advice and solutions.

 

Next, make an outline for your essay. What are the three societal problems you are writing about from the Netherlands? What are the three societal problems of the other country? What are you going to say at the beginning of your essay in the first paragraph (intro) and the last paragraph (conclusion)?

 

Finally, write your essay! It should be a minimum of 8 paragraphs. 1 intro paragraph, 6 body paragraphs (the comparisons), and 1 conclusion paragraph. You may write it on paper or type it. 

 

Are you CONFUSED? Does this make no sense at all?  Make sure you sign up for one of the blox in the first two weeks of the period. In these bloX, Mr. Baldwin will show you methods of writing a good essay and coach you through your essay writing. You must come to at least one of these bloX.

Now that you have had some practice comparing two different counties to each other, you are going to make a vlog/short film about the social and societal problems in Albania.

Now, go search online to see if you can find where Albania struggles in these societal areas:

1) Jobs and livelihood: what’s in it for me, brain drain or stay and build a future, digital transition

2) Migration & Integration: mobility, respect, inclusivity and human rights

3) Democratic processes: voting as right, freedom of speech, digitalisation, fake news, social media, privacy

Write at least four sentences per problem, so you need to write 12 sentences minimum. also, list your sources (websites) where you got the info. You can write this on paper or type it. This will be your script for your vlog/short film.

You use the facts that you searched for from Albania's societal problems and you make a vlog/short film giving advice about how Albania might fix these problems. This vlog/video will be sent to other Secondary School students in Albania, so make it professional!

Albania's many EU challenges - Emerging Europe

Use a video editing program to create this film/video. This needs to be at least 5-10 minutes in length and you need to dive deep into how Albania might fix these problems. You could, for example, videotape yourself talking about these problems and the solutions you propose, or you could make a short film with clips and do a voice-over where you explain how Albania could solve these problems. Make sure you sign up for the bloX in the 3rd and 4th work week of the period. I am going to show you some techniques that will help you with this and making professional videos.

5. Extra Credit

For students who want to participate in the Relay where you give students from Albania your advice live in a Webinar, let Mr. Baldwin know. This will take place on June 2nd for Basecamp red from 15:00-17:00 and June 3rd for Basecamp Blue from 15:00-17:00.

You get an extra 5 XMs for doing this.

We will also do some preparation work together in a bloX.
