Introduction
Op deze Wikiwijs-pagina vind je informatie over General Language Test, een PTA-onderdeel van het havo programma voor Engels.
Dit PTA wordt afgenomen in juni 2023.
General Language Skills - PTA
Purpose
To make sure you are ready for the exam year, you will sit a general language test, testing your reading and writing skills, including your knowledge of grammar and vocabulary. The test is a CEFR level B1, but you can choose to sit a more challenging test at B2 level.
This is a 'handelingsdeel' in your PTA, meaning that you won't receive a mark that will count towards your average. Doing the test is compulsory. Your work will be graded, and if your mark is insufficient, you will receive an invitation to a catch-up-day in July and/or receive a packet of summer work.
Assignment
Your General Language Test will consist of the following parts:
- Writing
- 150-200 word composition (article or story)
- Reading
- short article with both open and multiple choice questions
- Use of English
- sentence/word transformation exercises
- open cloze (completing sentences w/ m.c. options)

You can download the practice test below, or get a paper copy from Mrs Wams.
There are two levels to choose from:
- Intermediate - B1 level. This is the basic level you want to be on.
- Advanced - B2 level. This is a more challenging level, if you feel that you're good at English and want to show off your skills.

Useful Materials (extra practice)
Naturally, you have had the opportunity to train your reading skills all year long using the materials in Wasp Reporter.
Using the links below, you can find lots and lots of extra practice material. You don't have to do every single exercise there; just practice as much as makes you feel comfortable and confident.
I do recommend having a look at the Anglia materials; these feature a convenient overview of the grammatical items you need to understand at a certain level and will serve as the basis for your test.
