Team Blue

Hi there! Welcome to Team Blue..

Let me explain what you have to do in the blue learning arrangement. Don't worry, it is very easy.

Here we have 2 lessons that you can practice. In the first lesson you will learn everything about the Present Simple. At the end of the lesson you will be able to use regular and irregular verbs in the Present Simple time and make simple (negative) sentences and questions.

Once you've done the exercises from the first lesson, you can move on to the second lesson. Here you will learn about subject & object pronouns.

In each lesson, start by reading the theory and watch the video explanations. Then you can move on to the exercises and practice what you've learned. If you feel that you know the theory, then you can simply start with the exercises and move on to the final assignment.

Lesson 1: Present Simple Explanation

Welcome to your first lesson in this learning arrangement. In this lesson you will learn everything about the Present Simple (=Tegenwoorige tijd) and how you can make correct sentences. Before we start, please watch this video about the Present Simple!

We use The Present Simple (tegenwoordige tijd) in the following situations:

- Facts: The sun comes up every morning.

- Daily routines: I drink coffee every morning.

Pay attention to the following words in sentenses that are in the Present Simple:

Every, always, never, every week, every month etc..

How do you use the present simple in a sentence?

With: I/YOU/WE/THEY - use the whole verb, for example; walk, run, talk, eat, sleep etc.

With: HE/SHE/IT (SHIT-rule) - use the whole verb + S, for example; walks, runs, talks, eats, sleeps etc.

I run home.                   Ik ren naar huis.
You run home.             Jij rent naar huis.
He runs home.             Hij rent naar huis.
She runs home.            Zij rent naar huis.
It runs home.                Het rent naar huis.

We run home.               Wij rennen naar huis.
You run home.              Jullie rennen naar huis.
They run home.            Zij rennen naar huis.

Lesson 1: Present Simple Irregular verbs

Irregular verbs (=onregelmatige werkwoorden) To Have / To Be:

Zijn/worden = TO BE              Hebben = TO HAVE

you are          jullie zijn              you have            jullie hebben

Bitmoji Image

Congratulations..You finished your first lesson and now know everything about the Present Simple. You are one step closer to speaking English. Lets move on to the seccond lesson in this learning arrangement.

In this lesson you will learn about the Subject Pronoun and the Object Pronoun.

Subject Pronoun

The Subject Pronoun is something or someone who is performing the action in a sentence. It is often the subject (=onderwerp) of the sentence.

For example: She is baking cookies.
The subject pronoun is she!

It is always important to know how you speak to/about a person, so we use the following personal pronouns.

Pay attention to the following things:

  • I is always capitalized, even in the middle of a sentence!
  • English has only one form for "jij, u, jullie" --> you and you: you.
  • When you talk about things, you use it. This is also the case with animals whose sex is unknown or unimportant. For example: That's a parrot. It sits on a plant; That's a parrot. He is sitting on a plant.
  • When translating she, you have to pay attention to whether it is about 1 person (= she) or about several people (= they).

Object Pronoun

The Object Pronoun is someone/something receiving the action in a sentence. You can find it by asking the question "Who does what?". The answer to that question is then the Object Pronoun.

An object Pronoun is placed at the end of the sentence, usually after the main verb. BUT...If there is a preposition in the sentence (such as to or with), the object pronoun is immediately after it.
