Jullie werken in groepen van 4, de vakantiebeurs (eindproduct) presenteren jullie op de projectdag.

Lesdoelen

- At the end of this lesson, you can explain the instruction of the Taaltaak to your neighbour.

- At the end of this lesson, you can write down three of the landmarks of your chosen city.

Landen waaruit jullie kunnen kiezen:

Australië - Sydney

Engeland -  London

Canada - Vancouver

USA - New York

Ireland - Dublin

Steps:

Step 1: groups

We need your names to form groups of 4. A group generator will random select these groups. It is up to you to choose a country and a city. Challenge yourself! It is fun to do something that is not familiar to you.

Step 2: placemat

You’ve chosen a country/city. Make a placemat together. Write down your city in the middle of a circle. Write down English words that come to you when thinking about your city, think about your own space at that paper, like a box. (individually) (3 minutes)

For example: If I think about Australia, Sydney, I’m thinking about crocodiles.

Compare your words to each other and decide which words belong to your city. (together) (3 minutes)

We’re going to discuss some of your words. Decide which one of you is going to represent your group. Explain why you’ve chosen these words and why. Try to answer in English. (4 minutes)

Step 3: products

You have to choose two products to promote your city.

A starter and a main course. The side dishes are there to guide you.

  • Brochure
  • Short video
  • Social media portfolio
  • Poem

Brochure

A4 format.
Attractions - Choose 3, write down per attraction why your travelers should go here.
Use images! minimum of 2, maximum of 4.

Culture and traditions:

  • What is the country known for? Name two things like holidays, national sports or attractions.
  • Use at least 2 sentences from the stones in your textbook on page 120.
  • Create your brochure in Microsoft Publisher or Canva.com

Short Video

Your video should at least last 90 seconds.

Be creative! Make a vlog, a complication, a commercial or perhaps a weather forecast.

  • Obviously you should speak English, no Dutch allowed!
  • You have to speak in your video, even if you make a complication.

You can use the Stones in your textbook on page 120.

Social Media Portfolio

Make an Instagram, Facebook or Twitter account and upload at least 10 pictures about the country you've chosen:

  • Culture and Tradition
  • Food
  • Music
  • Sports
  • Weather

Write in your comments about the pictures. Use the Stones and Yellow Pages.

Keep in mind that even though you're using pictures, you have to research your country and at the presentation, you'll have to talk about your choices.

Poem

Write a poem about your chosen city.

  • Culture and Tradition
  • Food
  • Music
  • Sports
  • Weather

There have to be at least 4 stanzas in your poem. You can use the Stones and the Yellow Pages to write your poem.

What you need to know:

The Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam is a well-known museum in the Netherlands with famous paintings from painters like ‘De Nachtwacht’ by Rembrandt.

When can you visit it?

The Rijksmuseum is open every single day in the year even with Christmas and on New Year’s Eve from 9 am until 5 pm.

Show your results to your teacher. If you have a go, you can start! Try to find someplace quiet and start with your products.

Step 6: end of this day

At the end of this day, you get a form that you’ll have to fill in.

  • Group
  • Country and city
  • Products
  • General ideas

(For the holiday fair: if you want you can dress up and bring useful stuff to make your table representative! Be creative!)

Step 7: Done?

Upload your products and e-mail them to your teacher two days before the holiday fair.

Step 8: holiday fair

You’ll get a table to present your city.

When you’re representing your city, two of you will walk around to take a look at the products of the other groups. The other two stay at the table and do the presentation.

You’ll have 2 hours to represent your city!

Step 9: grading and evaluation

In this last step from this Taaltaak, you’ll evaluate your own and those of others.

You’ll get a rubric and grade each other. Be honest and give each other feedback, tips, and tops.
