Getting started

You have just started the theme Spare time and music.

Project B: Talk about hobbies

You are going to give a talk about one of your own hobbies.

You should first look up information and then work out what you will and will not say during your talk


A good talk has the following structure:

  • Introduction: What the topic is and why you chose this topic.
  • Core: You tell more about your chosen topic here. Try to tell as many things as possible that your classmates don't know yet.
  • Closing: Round off your talk and ask people if they have any questions.


For your talk, you are allowed to write some keywords on a piece of paper and keep it at hand.

Your talk:

  • Makes it clear what your hobby is;
  • Provides information on how you can do this hobby;
  • Indicates if there are costs to be made when doing your hobby;
  • Provides information on where you can do your hobby;
  • Indicates if it’s a solo or team activity;
  • Is around 4 – 6 minutes;
  • Uses images to support your talk.


Practise giving your talk:

After finding all the information above, practise with a classmate. Ask for tips and tops.
Time yourself practising this talk. That way you know how much time you need.

Presentatie maken

Een Pecha Kucha is een presentatie die bestaat uit 20 slides. Voor iedere slide heb je 20 seconden de tijd om te presenteren, dus je verhaal duurt in totaal 6 minuten en 40 seconden.

You are going to watch the official clip of Billy Joel performing ‘Piano Man’. You can read along with the lyrics.

  • Work with a classmate.
  • Write a new verse, in which you explain where John would rather be.

Songtekst maken

Een songtekst of rap kun je goed gebruiken om je mening over een onderwerp over te brengen. Een songtekst presenteer je natuurlijk op muziek.     

 

When you’re finished, compare your verse with the verse from the original. Answer the following questions:

  • Are the two versions similar?
  • Or did you come up with something completely different?
  • Which ending do you prefer, yours or the original? Explain why.

Project D: Write a review

In this assignment you are going to write a review in English.
A review is an article in which you give your opinion on, for example, a book, a movie, a series or a play.

Reviews are often found in magazines or newspapers, but are also commonly found on the internet.

Choose a book, film, series or play to write a review about.

When you are writing, consider the following:

  • Start your review with a sentence with a gripping line that immediately grabs your attention!
  • Write a short summary or explain what you are writing about.
  • Write down your opinion and explain why you feel this way.
  • Use between 150 – 200 words.
