Step 5 - Speaking

Online shopping

Work together with a classmate.
You are going shopping for clothes! Not in an actual shop, but in an online clothes shop.

First, choose an English online clothes shop.
Examples are: &Other stories, Asos and Nobody’s Child. You can also choose a different online store, if you like.

Second, have a look at the page ‘About us’ (or something similar). Shops will often discuss how they feel about fashion and it’s role in the environment. You’ll need this information for one of the questions.

Next:

  • Choose a piece of clothing.
  • Ask a classmate for their opinion on that piece of clothing.
  • Talk about the price of the clothing. Do you both think the item is worth the price?
    Why / Why not?
  • Talk about the online store itself. Do you think this shop cares about sustainability (duurzaamheid) and the environment?
    Why / Why not?
  • Finally, give your opinion on the shop. Would you like to shop here? Why / Why not?

Step 6 - Writing

Writing an email

Write an email to your English friend.
In your mail you …

•    Start with an informal salutation.
•    Write about a city trip.
•    Write about where you went.
•    Describe the shopping area.
•    Describe the clothes you bought.
•    Write how much money you spent.
•    Write that you’d like to see your friend something else.
•    Properly finish the mail.

Your mail has about 250-300 words.

Step 7 - Evaluation

You graded yourself on 3 topics during Introduction. Which grade would you give yourself now?
