14.2 Singing - hv12

Singing

Introduction

The subject of this period is singing.

  • Form groups of three or four pupils.

Famous singers sometimes have weird demands for their dressing rooms. Beyoncé, for instance, requires that her dressing room remains at exactly 78 degrees Fahrenheit (25.55 degrees Celsius) at all times. Also, she doesn’t want a Coca-Cola product in sight, Pepsi only for this pop diva!

During their 1982 tour, legendary rock band Van Halen specifically wrote: “M&Ms (WARNING: ABSOLUTELY NO BROWN ONES)”

  • Take two minutes to write down what your demands would be if you were a famous singer.
  • Share your demands with one another.

Justin Bieber
Justin Bieber was born on March 1, 1994, in Ontario, Canada. He grew up with his mother, Pattie, who was just 17 when he was born. As a young boy, Justin was into hockey, football, and music. He taught himself to play the guitar, piano, and drums. When his mother noticed Justin's musical talent, she started uploading videos of him singing on YouTube. These videos caught the attention of the famous singer Usher, who was impressed and signed Justin to his record label.

In 2009, Justin released his first album, "My World," and his song "One Time" started playing on radios worldwide. He performed on TV shows like Good Morning America and Today. He even sang at the White House for President Obama's Christmas event. In 2010, Justin went on his first official tour to promote his albums "My World" and "My World 2.0." He became known as a teenage heartthrob with his cool style, including backward hats, hoodies, and colorful sneakers. He gained millions of followers on social media, especially Twitter (now known as ‘X’), where he had over 45 million followers by 2013.

Besides music, Justin invests in technology companies and donates to charities that build schools in developing countries. He's also been a spokesperson for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). However, fame at a young age also brought trouble. Justin has had disagreements with fans and photographers and has received several citations for reckless driving.

Justin Bieber, when he was young, was known for his boyish looks and high-pitched voice. He gained fame as a teenager. Nowadays, Justin has matured both in appearance and in his music. He sports a more grown-up style, with tattoos and a deeper voice. His music has evolved too, focusing on more mature and personal themes. He married his longterm girlfriend Haily in 2019 and seems to have left behind some of the controversies of his youth. In 2023 Bieber is one of the best-selling music artists of all time, with estimated sales of over 150 million records worldwide. Justin Bieber has certainly transformed from a young pop sensation into a more seasoned artist and adult.
