Project A: Celebrity matchmaker

Celebrity matchmaker
Gesprekken voeren; een e-mail schrijven

Situation:
Six famous people are bored with their love life and are looking for other celebrities to go on a date with.
All six have contacted a celebrity matchmaker and the six of them had to fill out a list with four questions about themselves (physical appearance, age, I like and I hate).

Task:

  • Work together with six classmates.
  • Download the worksheet Celebrity matchmaker and cut out the celebrity cards.
  • Give one celebrity card to each member of your group.
  • Do not show your card to members of your group.
  • From now on you will be the celebrity on your card.
  • You must find another person that likes or hates the same things as you do.

Procedure:

  • Make sure the six of you are close enough to talk to each other and understand each other.
  • Start asking questions to the other celebrities and try to find out who could match your personality. Make sure you talk to all men if you're a woman and vice versa.
  • When you have spoken to the three potential dates, write down who you think your ideal date is.
  • Sit together and tell each other who you think your date is. See if the other person 'likes you too'.
  • Finally, show each other your cards, have a look at them all together and find out if you were right. Use the millionaire matchmaker answer sheet if necessary.

After the dating process, you need to write an email to your anonymous celebrity matchmaker to tell her who you think would be your ideal date.
Send her an email of about 50 words explaining who you think your ideal date is and why. Tell her how your meeting with this person went too.
Think of an appropriate opening and closing of your email.

You have done a good job if:

  • You’ve had a conversation with three potential dates.
  • You’ve successfully found your perfect match.
  • You wrote an email of about 50 words.

Project B: I am sorry

I am sorry
Gesprekken voeren; excuses aanbieden

Situation
You regularly call and facetime your English pen pal. You made plans to call last night but you forgot and went to a party. After calling you a few times, your pen pal saw photos and videos of you at the party on social media. Your pen pal then send you the following messages.

I tried to call you a few times, but it seems you are at a party…
To be honest, I’m a bit angry and disappointed.

It’s okay if you forgot or if you made other plans, but you could have just texted me or called me back to tell me. It made me feel like I didn’t matter to you at all. That sucked…

You decide to call back your pen pal the following morning.

Act out the conversation with a classmate.

  • Work together with a classmate.
  • Together think about what you can say to apologize.
  • Also come up with a reaction from your pen pal.
  • If needed, write down keywords about what you’re going to say
  • Decide who is going to be the pen pal and who is going to apologize.

Tip: Ask two classmates to listen to your conversation and give feedback.

You have done a good job if:

  • You started and ended the conversation correctly
  • You knew the correct words
  • You knew how to apologize
  • You spoke clearly
  • Everybody understood you
  • You improved your conversation with a classmate.

Project C: I miss you already

I miss you already!
Corresponderen; een korte e-mail schrijven

Situation
You just came back from a holiday abroad. When you were on holiday you met someone and fell in love.
Write your holiday love an email of at least ten sentences with the subject “I miss you already!”.

Tip: Use a dictionary.
Tip: Ask a classmate to read your email and give you feedback.

You have done a good job if you:

  • wrote at least ten sentences in English.
  • started and ended the email correctly.

You asked a classmate to give you feedback.
