This theme is about Holiday and travel.
How?
You are going to practise your listening, reading, speaking and writing skills.
You will visit websites, play games, do exercises and listen to stories.

You are going to read, listen, speak and write about 'Holidays and travel'.
By practising a lot your English will improve!

Getting started
You have just started the theme Holiday and travel.
You will find different things to watch, to listen to, to read and of course to do.
There are videos, recordings, pictures, photos, texts and assignments.
There are different types of assignments. Some of them you have to do on your own, others you are doing in a group.
At the end of those group assignments you are going to discuss the answers in your group. Some assignment will be checked by the computer.

In this theme you will focus on the following 'can do' statements.

Situation
You are going to have a Skype conversation with a classmate in English.
It is the summer holiday. One of you is on holiday in New York and the other is at home.
Both of you, come up with five questions you want to ask the other about their summer holiday.
Have the conversation. Make sure the conversation feels natural.
Tip: Ask two classmates to listen to your conversation and give you feedback.
You have done a good job if you:
- started and ended the conversation correctly
- knew the correct words
- asked correct questions
- knew how to answer the questions
- didn’t have to check your notes a lot
- spoke clearly
- managed to let everybody understood you
- improved your conversation with a classmate.
Project B: Planning a trip
Planning a trip on a budget

Situation
After having read about tourism in England in this theme, you and a classmate have become interested in spending your holidays there!
One little problem: your jobs in Albert Heijn have not made you rich yet...
You need to travel on a budget!
Each of you has €500 to spend.
Task
- Plan a trip to England and make a collage about it.
- You decide how long for and where to, but remember you only have €500 to spend for your whole holiday (i.e. travel, accommodation, food, museums etc.).
- Make sure the following 'decisions' are visible on your collage:
- how long you will stay there
- means of transport
- accommodation
- where you will stay (picture of hotel, B and B, etc.)
- what you are going to do
- what you will eat and drink
- prices of everything

Project C: Trip report
Writing a trip report

Situation
You went on a school trip to London for three days. Each day, you and your classmates visited a popular tourist attraction and had some free time to do or visit whatever you wanted. Now, you are going to write a report about everything you’ve experienced in London.
Task
- Decide how you travelled to London.
- Look up three tourist attractions in London.
- Look up information about things you could have done in London in your free time.
- Write a trip report of 150-200 words in which you:
- explain how you travelled to London
- explain what you did on each day.
- talk about what the trip was like. For example: did you like it or not, what was the best part, would you go back to London, etc.
