You are going to talk about yourself and your hobbies in English.
You are also going to listen to people who talk about themselves.

Getting started
You have just started the theme Hobbies and sports.
You will find different things to watch, to listen to, to read and of course to do.
There are videos, recordings, pictures, photos, texts and assignments.
There are different types of assignments. Some of them you have to do on your own, others you are doing in a group.
At the end of those group assignments you are going to discuss the answers in your group. Some assignment will be checked by the computer.
Need to know
Before starting to work in this theme, check with a classmate how much you know about hobbies and sports in English already.
To do so work through the exercises in this section.
You start with the definitions of 'hobby' and 'sport', by searching them on simple Wikipedia.
Sports-Kim's game
You are going to look at a list of sports.
Together with a partner you are going to try to remember as many as you can! Which group remembers most sports in your class?
Procedure:
Find a classmate to work with.
Make sure you have a timer.
Open the list of sports and have a look at it for exactly one minute.
Together with your partner, write down as many sports as you remember from the list you studied.
Swap lists with another pair. Check each other's answers (are the sports in the list? are they spelled correctly?). Who remembers most sports?
Hobbies – Guessing game
You are going to read about hobbies!
Go to simple.wikipedia.org and read the text.
Then, take a hobby in mind.
Your partner asks you yes/no questions to find out what hobby you have in mind. Then you guess the hobby your partner has in mind.
Tip:
The more unusual the hobby you have in mind is, the more difficult it is for your classmate to guess!

You are going to make a game of Sports Taboo. Then you are going to play the game another group has made.
Making the game
Think of – or look up – 30 different sports.
For each sport, create a card with three Taboo words – words the payer isn’t allowed to say when describing the sport.
Playing the game
Get a set of cards from another team.
Play the game according to the rules on the website.
If you find any mistakes on the cards, inform the team that created them.
Project B: Create a video for the school website
Create a video for the school website
You can do this individually, or you can work with a classmate.
Your school would like a video too on their website about the sports and after-school or extra activities that you can do there. You are going to make that video.
Decide what you want to show in your video.
Include at least one short interview with a student or a teacher.
Include a short tour of the facilities.
Project C: Write an essay about hobbies and sports
Write an essay about hobbies and sports
You are going to write an essay about how to make sure every teenager can play a sport or pursue a hobby, even if they don’t have much money to spend.
In your essay:
explain the problem;
explain the importance of hobbies and sports to teenagers;
describe your own situation (what hobby’s you have, what sports you play, what it all costs);
come up with two or three possible solutions;
finish with a conclusion;
pay special attention to the correct use of the past simple and prepositions.
