Finishing touch

You have completed the lessons for the theme 'Shopping'.
Time for the Finishing touch.

You will find three extra speaking and writing exercises.

  • Choose one or two. Discuss with your teacher how many you have to do.
  • Work with a classmate.
  • Then do the D-test and answer the evaluation questions.

Good luck.

Project A: A class survey about shopping

A class survey about shopping

You are going to find out what your classmates’ shopping habits are.

  • Create a survey. You can do this on paper, in Word or using an online tool like Google Forms.
  • Include four questions about shopping habits that can be answered with yes or no. You can use the texts in this theme for inspiration.
  • Make sure it takes no more than 1-2 minutes to complete the survey.
  • Ask your classmates to do the survey.
  • Analyse the results. What are the most common shopping habits in your class?
  • Use the results to write a short report about your classmates’ shopping habits. Also include a comparison with your own shopping habits.

Project B: Camden fashion

Camden Town is a great place to shop if you like clothes that are a bit unusual.
You'll see some very strange clothes in this video and you'll also find out what a Cyber-Goth is!
Have a look at the video and do the worksheet.

Project C: Clothing for sale!

Clothing for sale!

You’ve got a wardrobe full of shoes and clothes that you never wear. You don’t want to just throw out perfectly good clothes, so you decide to sell some of them through an app.

Create 3-5 adds for different types of footwear and clothing. If you want, you can use photos of actual items of clothing that you have at home to liven up your ads.

In your ads:

  • describe the item: what is it, what size is it, what type of material, what colour(s)?
  • write a short text in which you explain what is great about the item.
  • explain in short why you’re getting rid of it.
  • mention an asking price (in British pounds). Do some research into realistic prices for second-hand items.

Ask a classmate to check out your ads and use their feedback to improve them.

Tip: Ask your teacher if you can have an actual second-hand clothing sale using the ads.

D-toets

Test your knowledge. Do the diagnostic test.

What did you learn?

You started this theme you with a test in the section Need to know.

  • Do this test again.
  • Are your results better than the first time?

At the end of each double period you answered evaluation questions. Use these answers to answer the following questions:

  • What new things did you learn?
  • Which assignment was the best one to learn from?
  • Are you able to do what you have to do?
  • How did you get on doing the assignments?

Timing
In the introduction of each double period there is an indication of the amount of time you need to do the activity.

  • What do you think of this timing?

Group work

  • What do you think of working in a group?
  • Did every group member do the same amount of work?

Project

  • What did you think of the project?
