Assignment: reading & literature files
A language is most easily and efficiently learnt when you are submerged by it: when you hear and read a lot of English, the language will become easier and easier for you to understand and to use. This is why we ask you to read and listen to English texts at home, and to report on your experiences. Aside from this, we ask you to apply the literary theory that you've learnt in Dutch class to the English books you've read.
To help you fulfill this requirement, your teacher will ask you to make your own Wikiwijs Arrangement and to keep your teacher updated on your progress. Your teacher will set deadlines during your 4th year for you to copy your reports to Wikiwijs. This way, you won't lose your reports and your teacher can give you feedback on your work.
Literature file
To be able to participate in the SET Speaking, you are required to have read at least 4 English novels. You will have to hand in your literature file, consisting of 4 reports, two weeks before the SET is scheduled (in Havo 5). This means that it is imperative that you keep your reports safe, and that you won't lose them. When you pick a book, discuss with your teacher whether it is an appropriate book: it has to be of a certain level. The books have to be at least 120 pages long.
After having read a book, write a book report according to the format below and copy it to Wikiwijs. A literature report should be at least 2 pages long and can be written in both English and Dutch.

Listening file
For the SET Listening you are required to make at least 8 listening reports, without which you won't be allowed to participate in the SET Listening. Two weeks before this SET is scheduled, you have to hand in your listening file.
To make a listening report you watch an English programme, for example on the BBC, or on the internet. Make sure that there are no Dutch subtitles, only English subtitles are allowed. During your watching, you take notes of keywords that you hear. You put these on your listening report. When you’re done, you write a short summary (in English) of the programme you’ve watched. Don´t forget to give your opinion. You will find a format for your listening report below, please note that it should be written in English and that it should be one page long.
Of the eight reports that you will make in total, you are allowed to watch a maximum of 2 films. If you watch an episode of a series, you are allowed to make a maximum of 2 episodes per series. Please make sure that your vary in the type of programmes you watch; try to watch as many documentaries and news reports as possible.

Info Wikiwijs: maak je eigen arrangement
1. Zorg er eerst voor dat je een eigen Wikiwijspagina aanmaakt. De instructie die je stap voor stap uitlegt hoe dit moet, vind je in de studiewijzer.
2. De gemaakte opdrachten moeten direct zichtbaar zijn. Dat betekent dat je de teksten typt in Wikiwijs of kopieert vanuit Word. Je mag geen Worddocument toevoegen als bijlage!
3. Geef op het tabblad 'Overview books' een volledig overzicht van de gelezen boeken. Zo kun je in één oogopslag zien welke boeken je gelezen hebt. Noteer van elk boek: de titel, de auteur, het niveau van het boek en het aantal sterren dat je het boek zou geven. Hierbij geldt dat 5 sterren maximaal is. Houd dit overzicht up-to-date!

Samenvatting: Het verhaal begint bij Natasha Kingsley, een 17-jarig meisje. Natasha en haar familie zijn in Amerika eigenlijk illegaal. Dat komt omdat Natasha’s vader dronken in een gevecht was met de politie en toen had gezegd dat hij en zijn familie illegaal in Amerika zijn. Ze zijn illegaal in Amerika, omdat haar vader een succesvolle Broadway carrière wilde hebben. Dat is niet gelukt, hij heeft maar enkele rollen gekregen. Hierdoor was de spanning hoog in huize Kingsley ook moest Natasha’s moeder een baan gaan zoeken, zodat ze niet in de geldproblemen zouden gaan komen.
Dus Natasha’s moet eigenlijk bezig zijn met inpakken, omdat ze de avond weg moeten gaan. Maar Natasha wil dat helemaal niet! Dus ze gaat opzoek naar een oplossing om niet weg te hoeven gaan. Ze gaat naar U.S Customs and Immigration Services om te zien wat er kan gebeuren zodat ze gewoon in Amerika kan blijven. Wanneer ze daar is wordt ze tegen gehouden door Irene; de bewaker. Ze is te laat voor haar afspraak, ze heeft dan een afspraak met iemand die haar verwijst naar de immigratie advocaat Jeremy Fitzergerald. Een van de beste immigratie advocaten in New York.
Intussen tijd gaat het verhaal over naar Daniel Jae Ho Bae, een 17-jarige jongen. Hij is onderweg naar zijn Yale interview. Zijn ouders komen van Zuid-Korea en beiden werken ze in een drogisterij, de ouders verdienen niet goed. Daarom willen ze dat hun kinderen Daniel en Charlie naar de beste universiteiten gaan om later een dokter te kunnen worden. Daniel wil het helemaal niet, hij wil later in zijn leven aan poëzie gaan werken. Daniel heeft alleen een goeie band met haar moeder. Hij kan niet goed omgaan met zijn vader en al helemaal niet met zijn broer Charlie.
Wanneer Daniel in de trein zit, is er een conducteur die allerlei rare dingen in de microfoon zegt. Als Daniel bij zijn bestemming is wordt er door de conducteur gezegd dat de passagiers opzoek moeten gaan naar tekens van god. Eigenlijk is hij onderweg naar de kapper, omdat zijn moeder vindt dat zijn haren te lang zijn en ongepast is voor een Yale interview. Maar dan ziet hij Natasha met een rugzak waarop staat ‘DEUX EX MACHINA’ (god uit de machine). Dit vat hij op als een teken van God, daardoor begint hij Natasha te volgen. Tenslotte ziet hij Natasha binnen in een winkel gaan, waar hij begint met praten tegen Natasha. Als Natasha de winkel is gegaan, ziet ze haar ex met zijn nieuwe vriendin. Maar Natasha en Daniel zien dat ze een cd aan het stelen zijn.
Daniel begint het gesprek met Natasha, maar zij wil zo snel mogelijk weggaan om iets te kunnen gaan regelen om niet weg te kunnen gaan. Maar Natasha kan niet wegblijven van Daniel en hij al helemaal niet van haar. Maar ze kan niet ontkennen dat ze geen aantrekkingskracht voelt tegenover Daniel. Ze kunnen het goed met elkaar hebben, maar ze lijken beiden niet op elkaar. Natasha gelooft alleen in de wetenschap en vindt poëzie onzin. Daniel is precies het tegenovergestelde hij houdt van poëzie en denkt dat alles niet uit te leggen valt met de wetenschap.
Het moment dat Daniel en Natasha elkaar hebben ontmoet, kunnen ze niet zonder elkaar blijven. Ze leren vele dingen van elkaar. Zoals dat Daniel eigenlijk niet naar Yale wil en geen dokter wil worden en Natasha’s familieverleden. Naarmate ze langer tijd met elkaar hebben doorgebracht hebben ze ontdekt dat ze van elkaar houden; ze zijn verliefd geworden. Maar wanneer Natasha vertelt dat ze weg moet uit Amerika, daardoor wordt Daniel boos op haar. Daardoor wordt Natasha ook boos op hem. Ze scheiden van elkaar, maar al snel merken ze dat ze niet zonder elkaar kunnen.
Ze zijn intensief opzoek naar elkaar, maar dan ontdekken ze dat ze beide een interview hebben met dezelfde persoon: Jeremy Fitzgerald. Daniel heeft een plek gescoord op Yale, maar jammer genoeg moet Natasha het land uit. Ze nemen afscheid van elkaar en proberen contact met elkaar te houden. Maar dat lukt niet door het afstand en de tijdsverschillen.
10 jaar later. Natasha en Daniel zijn in dezelfde vliegtuig, ze herkennen elkaar meteen. Irene de oude bewaker is nu een stewardess geworden. Ze bedankt Natasha voor het redden van haar leven. Op de dag dat Irene zelfmoord wilde plegen had Natasha een telefoontje gemaakt om haar te bedanken.
Korte beschrijving personages:
Natasha Kingsley: Intelligent en vastberaden. Ze weet precies welke beroep ze later wil gaan uitoefenen. Wanneer ze iets wil dan gaat ze er ook voor. Ze gelooft niet in het lot, ze gelooft alleen de wetenschap.
Daniel Jae Ho Bae: Hij is heel erg dromerig. Heeft heel veel passie voor het leven en dat je het de beste van moet maken. Daarom wil hij geen dokter worden wat zijn ouders willen voor hem, omdat hij er geen passie voor heeft.
C. Uitgebreide eigen mening
Ik vond het een leuk boek! Nicola Yoon kan best fijn schrijven en lezers meetrekken in het verhaal. Een hoofdstuk was meestal een kort hoofdstuk in het oogpunt van Daniel of van Natasha. Er zijn ook andere oogpunten in het boek, zoals van Irene de bewaker en de Jeremy de advocaat. En ook een oogpunt die waarschijnlijk van God is. Het was zeker geen realistisch boek, want de kans is niet heel groot dat je meteen smoorverliefd wordt op iemand. Wat wel bij Daniel en Natasha zo was. Daarom vond ik het ook een leuk boek, omdat het in het echt niet snel zou gaan gebeuren. Natasha en Daniel zijn zo verschillend van elkaar dat het bijna onmogelijk zou lijken dat ze verliefd op elkaar kunnen worden. Daniel heeft een moeilijke thuissituatie dat werd ook uitgebreid verteld en ook die van Natasha werd uitgebreid uitgelegd. Alle gedachtes en gezegdes werden ook uitgebreid uitgelegd, dat vond ik wel fijn om te lezen. Maar soms vond ik het wel langdradig worden sommige uitspraken hadden meer dan een halve bladzijde uitleg. Ik vond het niet leuk dat Natasha toch naar Jamaica terug moest gaan en waarschijnlijk amper contact heeft met Daniel. Het zou mooi zijn als ze toch in Amerika zou kunnen blijven en met Daniel zou blijven. Het mooie vond ik wel dat ze elkaar na 10 jaar toevallig in dezelfde vliegtuig elkaar tegen hadden gekomen.

Samenvatting:
Het boek begint bij Mallory Dodge. Het meisje in haar puberjaren, die een moeilijk leven heeft gehad. Sinds jongs van aan leefde ze in en uit pleeghuizen, ze weet niet wat er is gebeurd met haar echte familie. Op een gegeven moment woonde ze bij een pleegfamilie samen met Rider Stark, die net zoals haar zijn hele leven lang in en uit pleeghuizen en pleeggezinnen leefde, ook weet hij niet wie zijn echte familie is. Met z’n tweeën leefden ze samen bij een kwaad pleeggezin, samen met een vrouw en een man. Ze mishandelde Mallory en Rider regelmatig vooral Rider, omdat hij Mallory wilde beschermen van de man kreeg hij het meeste van de twee. Mallory en Rider hebben beide dezelfde leeftijd, maar toch gedraagt Rider zich volwassener op een 6-jarige leeftijd. Rider las voor Mallory en noemde haar Mouse. Maar op een dag is de vrouw van het huis overleden, maar niemand had het op de gaten, omdat ze dachten dat ze weer teveel gedronken had en weer aan het slapen was. Dat was helemaal niet het geval, ze was gewoon dood en Mallory had haar dode lichaam gezien. Ze was naar de vrouw gegaan, omdat de man Rider weer aan het mishandelen was en zij hem moest helpen. Toen de man het gehoord heeft dat ze dood is, brak de hel los in het huis. Hij gaaf Mallory de schuld en gooide haar favoriete knuffel in het vuur, daardoor ontstond er een brand in het huis. De man heeft het niet overleefd, maar Rider en Mallory gelukkig wel. Na die avond hebben ze elkaar nooit meer gezien en zijn ze verder gegaan met hun eigen leven.
Maar na ongeveer 10 jaar gaat Mallory weer naar een openbare school, omdat het mentaal weer beter gaat met haar. Wanneer ze voor het eerst weer in een school is ziet ze Rider, ze zitten bij elkaar op school. Ze herkenden elkaar niet in het begin, dus daardoor liepen ze de hele dag langs elkaar zonder elkaar te herkennen. Ze dachten wel “degene komt me wel bekend voor”. Op het laatst hebben ze speech class met elkaar en zitten ook per toeval naast elkaar. Mallory herkende hem toen wel en ook als eerste, want later pas viel bij Rider het kwartje het is Mallory! Ze waren blij dat ze elkaar na 10 jaar hebben gevonden.
Na wat gepraat te hebben wat er de afgelopen 10 jaar gebeurd is. Blijkt dat Rider in een Spaans pleeggezin is geplaatst, waar hij het heel fijn vindt. Hij is geadopteerd door een beste oude Spaanse vrouw die samenleeft met haar twee kleinzonen.; ‘abuelita’ noemen ze haar. Ze zien elkaar als broers, een broertje die 2/3 jaar jonger is dan Rider zelf en een broer die dezelfde leeftijd heeft als Rider.
Rider en Mallory zijn beide getalenteerd als het om kunst gaat. Rider doet aan graffiti en Mallory snijdt stukken zeep in allerlei figuren dat maakt haar rustig. Daardoor kunnen ze hun band nog meer versterken.
Rider en Mallory gaan steeds meer tijd met elkaar spenderen en blijkt het dat er nog verborgen gevoelens zijn tussen de twee. En niet als twee beste vrienden die veel met elkaar hebben meegemaakt, maar als twee geliefden. Het is in het begin moeilijk voor ze, omdat Rider een vriendin had en het uit heeft gemaakt voor Mallory. Rider wilde zijn ex helemaal niet breken, maar hij heeft meer gevoelens gekregen voor Mallory meer dan hij ooit had gehad voor zijn ex. Het is voor ze beide nog steeds wel lastig, omdat zijn ex wel een goeie band heeft met zijn broers en de meeste van zijn vrienden is ze nog steeds in het twee leven tussen de twee geliefden.
In de eerste weken tussen de twee ging het wel goed en waren ze heel erg blij met elkaar. Maar Rider woont in een slechte buurt, waardoor hij ook wel is problemen heeft met sommigen. Dat komt meestal, omdat zijn broertje daar contact mee heeft gezocht. Na een tijdje is zijn broertje eindelijk gestopt met de slechte contacten, maar daar was het te laat voor.
Tijdens een kleine bijeenkomst bij hun thuis, is hij doodgeschoten. Rider en Mallory waren er allebei bij, Mallory was degene die zijn dode lijk had gezien en dat gaf haar een paniekaanval. Omdat dit niet de eerste keer was dat ze een dode lijk had gezien.
De gebeurtenis leed ernaartoe dat de twee in de gaten hadden dat ze nog even moesten wachten met de relatie, ze blijven wel goeie vrienden met elkaar en misschien later wat meer.
Korte beschrijving personages:
Rider Stark: Hij is een heel goed persoon en probeert voor iedereen om te komen en het goede in mensen te kunnen zien.
Mallory Dodge: Is een stille persoon, maar aardige persoon. Omdat ze het vroeger best wel moeilijk heeft gehad is ze aardig tegen iedereen, zelfs tegen de mensen die niks van haar moeten.
C. Uitgebreide eigen mening
Het was een leuk en bijzonder verhaal. Dit is een van mijn eerste keren dat ik zo’n boek heb gelezen met zo’n heftig onderwerp. In het boek wordt er geschreven over verschillende problemen die afspelen in de samenleving zoals drugs, bendes, schoolproblemen, problemen met het hebben van geen zelfvertrouwen, pleeghuizen/gezinnen en de problemen die zich afspelen bij het adopteren van een kind. Dat vond ik er wel goed aan, maar op zich is het verhaal wel cliché. Want er zijn de typische gemene meiden tegenover de hoofdpersoon (Mallory) en een van de meiden is dan de vriendin van de jongen (Rider) die de hoofdpersoon leuk vindt. En dan gaat het uit tussen de twee en heeft Mallory Rider voor zichzelf gewonnen.
Het is niet per se een slecht ding in het boek, maar het was best wel voorspelbaar. Het zou verrassend zijn als er iets heel ergs onverwachts zou gaan gebeuren, maar dat is niet gebeurd in het boek.
Ook al begonnen Mallory en Rider als vrienden in het boek was het al heel erg duidelijk dat ze verliefd begonnen te worden op elkaar en bij elkaar gingen komen. Ik vond het ook wel mooi dat het boek niet de hele tijd over de relatie tussen de twee ging.
Het was mooier om te zien dat het met Mallory steeds beter ging. Toen ze voor het eerst op school was, was ze bang dat ze geen vrienden zou krijgen en dat ze alleen moest gaan zitten in de pauzes. Ze groeide langzamerhand zelfverzekerder en durfde meer te doen, op het eind was ze niet meer dat verlegen meisje die nooit wat zei. Dat is voor Mallory ook belangrijk in haar leven en het zou raar zijn als daar geen aandacht werd besteed in het boek. Ook werd er aandacht besteed aan Rider zelf en zijn pleegfamilie. Hij had voordat hij Mallory weer zag, zag hij zijn pleegfamilie niet als een echte familie. Langzamerhand werd het voor hem duidelijk dat zijn pleegfamilie meer dan dat is.
Ik vond het ook mooi geschreven, vooral hoe er werd geschreven over de gevoelens van Mallory, net alsof de schrijfster dat allemaal zelf had meegemaakt.

Samenvatting: Het boek begint bij Leah Burke, de hoofdpersonage van het boek. Leah is the beste vriendin van Simon Spier’s beste vriendin sinds het begin van alles. Het vriendengroep van Leah zit dus in het laatste jaar van de middelbare school en Leah is bang wanneer het vriendengroepje uit elkaar moet, omdat bijna iedereen naar een andere universiteit gaan. Alle vrienden van Leah zijn nu bezig met universiteiten, naar welke ze willen en of ze worden geaccepteerd. Morgan een goede vriendin van Leah is niet geaccepteerd op haar droom universiteit, maar Abby wel. Omdat Morgan verdrietig was en ook best boos op Abby, want ja ze was best jaloers op haar. Maakte ze een opmerking dat Abby alleen werd aangenomen, omdat ze zwart was. Dat maakte Leah best boos, want ze zulke racistische opmerkingen kunnen gewoon niet. Daardoor wilde Leah niks meer met Morgan te maken hebben, maar de andere beste vriendin van Leah; Anna. Wilde graag dat ze het goed gingen maken, want het was bijna gala en het jaar was ook bijna voorbij en ze wilde niet kiezen tussen haar twee beste vriendinnen. Abby was er natuurlijk heel blij mee dat ze zo voor haar opkwam, maar Leah deed het niet per se voor haar maar omdat het gewoon niet kon. Maar Leah wist wel van binnen dat ze misschien zo boos werd omdat ze Abby nog steeds best leuk vindt.
Alleen Leah weet dat ze geen kans maakt, omdat ze hetero is met een vriend Nick. Maar omdat Nick en Leah naar een andere school gaan naar de middelbare school, heeft ze het uitgemaakt. Dit komt omdat ze geen langeafstandsrelatie wilde hebben. Dat heeft Nick wel een gebroken hart voor gezorgd.
Abby en Leah worden langzamerhand steeds betere vriendinnen met elkaar en beslissen om samen met de auto naar de universiteit te gaan waar ze beiden naar willen. Abby heeft een vriendin in de stad van de universiteit en ze mocht samen met Leah bij haar logeren, geen probleem voor beiden! De laatste nacht dat ze daar zijn heeft Abby een beetje gedronken. Abby en Leah delen samen een tweepersoonsbed de avond. En kortom Abby kust Leah.
Na de avond is het heel ongemakkelijk tussen de twee. De autorit naar huis was nog ongemakkelijker, Abby wilde wel praten maar Leah hoefde niks meer met haar te make hebben.
Leah heeft een jonge moeder, omdat ze Leah kreeg op haar 18e. Daardoor heeft Leah en d’r moeder ook een hele goeie band met elkaar. De moeder heeft ook een oudere vriend en Leah vindt het maar helemaal niks. Alleen dan komt gala om de hoek kijken en ze heeft een jurk. Maar nog een passende bh, schoenen en een tas én de auto van haar moeder was stuk gegaan waardoor ze ook niet naar de stad konden gaan om alles te kopen. Haar moeder vond het een goed idee om haar vriend te bellen en dat hij hen naar de stad zou brengen. Hij kwam met de auto en pikte de twee op en bracht ze naar de stad. Hij had een gala tas uitgekozen voor Leah en had het meteen gekocht voor haar, want hij wilde niet een argument met haar. Hierna mocht ze hem wel.
Bij het gala zou Leah eigenlijk met Garrett gaan, maar ze vindt hem eigenlijk niet zo leuk en was van plan om dat veel eerder te vertellen, alleen ze kreeg nooit de kans.
Eind van de avond was Leah er klaar mee dat ze nog niet heeft gepraat met Abby, nadat ze voor Abby stond wilde ze niet meer praten, maar wilde laten zien hoe verliefd ze is op haar.
Na die avond waren ze eindelijk ‘girlfriends’ zoals ze in het boek hebben gezegd.
Beschrijving personages:
Leah Burke: Een biseksuele meid die eindelijk na jaren uit de kast kon komen tegenover haar vrienden. Een hele goede drummer en een hopeloze romantiek.
Abigail Suso: Iedereen noemt haar Abby, maar ze heet eigenlijk Abigail. Ze is een hele slimme meid met grote ambities in het leven. Zoals ze zegt in het boek is ze ‘lowkey’ biseksueel, (leah vond het geen leuke uitspraak).
C. Uitgebreide eigen mening
Voor dit boek had ik eerste Love, Simon gelezen en wilde graag de andere boeken lezen van Albertali en ik zag dit boek in de mediatheek en had hem zo snel mogelijk meegenomen. Het is eigenlijk net zo goed geschreven als Love Simon, maar was natuurlijk niet even goed als Love Simon. Ik kon er makkelijk door heen lezen het had geen moeilijk taalgebruik en ik snapte bijna alles waar het boek overging.
Nu over de inhoud, ik mocht Leah meteen ze leek me wel echt een leuk meisje om vrienden mee te zijn. Alleen ze lijkt in de ogen van de mensen die niet haar vriend is, geen leuk iemand. Want ze is iemand die alles zegt wat ze denkt en soms kan het best gemeen klinken. Ik kon mezelf daar ook in identificeren, want zo iemand ben ik ook. En Leah heeft ook een groot zelfvertrouwen en houdt echt van haar lichaam ook al is ze ‘dik’ zoals ze zelf zegt in het boek. Ik vond haar wel een top meid!
Abby de andere hoofdpersoon in het boek vond ik niet zo leuk. In het begin vond ik haar wel wat, maar dat ze per se lichtelijk aangeschoten moest worden en Leah d’r eerste kus werd. Vond ik eigenlijk geen leuk stukje, omdat ze het net uit had gemaakt met haar vriend en dan aangeschoten een vriendin van haar zoent. Een beetje egoïstisch tegenover haar ex Nick, maar ook wel logisch dat ze Leah had gezoend met alcohol op, want dat geeft de mens wel meer zelfvertrouwen in wat ze doen. Will heeft een grote droom. Hij wilt al zijn hele leven een ridder worden, net zoals zijn vader. Zijn vader is overleden toen hij nog maar een kleine jongen was, later komt Will erachter dat zijn vader is overleden nadat hij zijn zoon Will heeft gered. Will heeft ook nooit haar moeder gekend, hij weet bijna niks over haar. Nadat zijn ouders waren overleden werd hij geplaatst in een weeshuis met andere kinderen, niemand kent elkaar en bijna niemand kent Will. Omdat Will een ridder wilt worden net zoals zijn vader, wilt hij zich inschrijven voor ‘Knight School of Castle Redmont’ om ook een van de beste ridders te kunnen worden. Dat kan alleen maar vanaf een bepaalde leeftijd en Will is nu oud genoeg om zich in te schrijven, maar jammer genoeg wordt hij afgewezen door de school. Will is hier verdrietig over, omdat hij zijn vader trots wilt maken en na de afwijzing is hij zichzelf niet meer. Maar toen kwam Halt, een groep jagers bijna niemand weet wie ze zijn en hebben ook geen idee wat ze precies jagen. Daardoor zijn de meeste mensen bang voor Halt. Maar iemand van Halt wilt dus Will gaan trainen, als zijn eigen leerling; Jager. Van Jager moet Will hard gaan trainen en ook moet hij leren om ‘perfect’ om paard te kunnen rijden. Na 7 maanden is Will eindelijk goed genoeg en evengoed als Jager. Hierna gaat Will naar een vergadering met de leden van Halt. Daar ontmoet hij een oude lid van het groepje: Gilian. Tijdens de vergadering ontdekt hij ook dat Morgarath oorlog heeft verklaard. Morgarath is een koning van een gevreesde rijk van nacht en afkomst. De koning Morgarath wilt de koning van Will vermoorden. De koning Morgarath wilt de koning vermoorden door een middel van een twee meter monster. Halt moet ervoor zorgen dat dat niet gaat gebeuren en gaan vechten tegen de monster, Will gaat ook vechten tegen de monster. Will is ook degene die de monster heeft vermoord met pijl en boog.
Korte beschrijving personages:
Will: Hij is de hoofdpersoon van het boek. Will is eigenlijk best een onzekere jongen, hij is ook eigenlijk best wel klein daardoor is hij ook afgewezen door de school van zijn dromen. Maar door zijn korte lengte was hij wel geschikt om een spion te kunnen worden. Naarmate het verhaal verder gaat, hoe meer zelfvertrouwen Will krijgt.
C: Uitgebreide eigen mening
Ik vond het best een leuke boek. Toen ik de flaptekst van het boek las, leek het mij echt geen leuke boek. Maar omdat ik snel een boek moest hebben voor het boekverslag heb ik ‘m toch gekozen. Ik had daardoor ook geen zin om het te lezen, maar toen ik begon. Vond ik het ook steeds leuker worden, het begin was wel een beetje moeizaam maar het begon wel leuker te worden. Dat is ook een reden waarom ik best wel snel klaar was met het lezen van het boek. Tijdens het lezen van het boek had ik ook in de gaten dat Will steeds meer zelfvertrouwen kreeg, op sommige momenten vond ik hem een beetje arrogant worden daardoor. Daarom had ik het gevoel dat hij arrogant zou worden op het einde, gelukkig was hij dat niet geworden. Op het einde was hij wel gewoon z’n oude zelf, maar dan met meer zelfvertrouwen; dat vond ik wel een mooie vooruitgang van Will. Want toen ik hem voor het eerste leerde kennen had ik echt helemaal geen gevoel dat hij zo veel zelfvertrouwen zou krijgen. Hij heeft wel een één leuke en soms grappige karakter eigenschap. Hij is echt heel erg nieuwsgierig. En dat snap ik natuurlijk wel hij wilde altijd weten wat er was gebeurd met zijn ouders en na meer dan tien jaar kwam hij erachter hoe zijn vader was overleden en waarom. Jammer genoeg heeft niet heel veel informatie gekregen over zijn moeder. Halt werd ook wel een beetje gek van Wills’ nieuwsgierigheid, want ze wilde hem niet alles vertellen omdat hij nog veel moest leren en er nog niet klaar voor was.
Het boek was niet al te moeilijk geschreven, ik snapte bijna alles wel. Maar sommige woorden moest ik wel opzoeken, omdat ik de betekenis er niet van wiste. Soms was het wel langdradig geschreven, ik ben wel blij dat de auteur niet alles in details ging schrijven. Want Will trainde voor zeven maanden en als je dat allemaal moest uit gaan schrijven, dan was het wel een boek geworden met meer dan 1000 pagina’s. Niet dat dat al te erg is, maar waarschijnlijk zijn het meer dan vijf hoofdstukken over dezelfde trainingen die wil heeft gekregen van zijn leraar (halt). En dat zou wel echt saai worden om het te lezen.

Summary: It’s about Sam who has autism and he going to try to find a girlfriend. First, we see him talking in the therapy session with Julia about that some things are hard for him like finding a girlfriend, he also makes references to Antarctica he really loves Antarctica. When the session is over Julia asks Sam if he wanted to donate his brain to research. After his therapy session he is having dinner with his family. Casey his sister, Elsa his mother and Doug his father. The next day he is at school thinking about that girls never notice him. After school he is at his Job Techtropolis, it is an engineering shop. Zahid; his colleague talks to Sam about the ‘great’ sex he had last night. Sam and Zahid are talking about dating so Zahid recommend that he should try online dating. In the evening he is setting up a dating profile with Casey who helps him with setting up a dating profile. Their mother says that he shouldn’t do because of ‘catfishing’ but Casey scares her off. Elsa and Doug are talking about Sam dating. Doug thinks it is a good idea for him to start dating, but Elsa thinks it is a bad idea because Sam isn’t like the others. The next day Elsa goes to Julia, she says that she shouldn’t be saying things about dating to Sam.
At home Sam is researching about girls: What they like, what kind of pick-up lines he should be using and at school he was studying what the boys were saying to the girl to get their attention. Later that day when he is at his job, there is a girl that smiles to him first he is insecure about it. Zahid says he should be smiling back, but when Sam smiles back but it is a creepy smile and scares of the girl. Zahid named the girl Red, because of her red hair. Sam has another therapy session with Julia, she teaches him how to smile properly.
Casey comes back from a run and the girl who she stood up for is there with her brother Evan. To give her a cake as a thank you for punching the bully. Evan takes interest in Casey.
The next night the parents have a date, at a restaurant. It was going great, they were making each other laugh and making fun of other people. But then it went downhills because the father said “everything is great with the kids” but she doesn’t believe that, the mother thinks that is not true, so they have a fight about it. While they were on a date Casey and Sam were relaxing on the couch, Casey was watching tv and Sam was trying to make his dating profile ideal. Then the doorbell rang, Evan was behind the door to take the cakepan. Casey finds it weird because she could have brought it to school. He asks her on a date, but she declines, when he was trying again Sam ran to Casey to say that a girl wants to go on a date with him. When Sam is on the date it went bad, he couldn’t say the right things to her. Sam was after the poor date back at his job he sees Red again looking at printers Zahid pushes him to talk to her and ask her on a date. Sam listened to him and he scored a date with Red.
Doug and Elsa make it up. He suggests that Elsa should go the dance club, she goes the next day to the dance club. She has a lot of fun at the end she makes some friends, after that she goes to the bar with some friends she just made. The friends of Elsa went home but she stays, and she meet the barman. They get along well, they are talking about their love life and that the barman lives without rules.
So, Sam has a date with Red eating pizza, in the parking lot behind Techtropolis because it a place where he feels comfortable. The date was going great, they were saying to each other about things they never did. Sam says have a girlfriend, never went to Antarctica and never had sex. When Red hears it about she asks him if he wanted to have sex. Later that night he is at her dorm, she begins touching him soft. But he doesn’t like it when people touch him softly he likes it hard. He wonders if he should say that she should touch him hard. He doesn’t. That leads him to push her from the bed and runs away.
Sam is upset about what happened. When he is home, he sees Evan and Casey. Sam tells them what happened. He also tells his dad, to cheer him up Doug takes him to the aquarium. Where they bond talking about penguins.
He has another therapy session with Julia, Sam discovers that he has a crush on his therapist. Penguins always offer their mate something, so Sam donated his brain to research.
Opinion: I really liked the first episode. It was a mix of humor and drama show, I really liked that. It wasn’t that serious, but it was a serious subject with a bit of humor. There isn’t a lot of series about autism it was something different than most of the series I watched. The episode educated me about the subject. The characters were played well by the actors. I loved almost every character. I didn’t like Elsa because she was very negative about her son Sam, that he shouldn’t be dating. I understand where she is coming from, but it wasn’t fun to watch her being stressful. I would like to have seen some friends of Sam, he only has Zahid as a friend. The show was very compelling. When something happened, I wanted to know direct what would happen next. The thoughts of Sam were interesting to hear. Some scenes were very emotional like when the date with Red and Sam was very sad about it. I really liked it when Evan was trying to comfort him because they didn’t know each other. Casey; Sam’s sister is also always comforting Sam. But sometimes it would look like that Casey was being mean to him without reason and would bully him. Maybe she treats him that he would know that he isn’t something special because he has autism. Like his mother is treating him differently because he has autism. I don’t like Elsa that much because when she was at the bar and met that barman. She was being very sweetly, I think she is going to cheat on her husband. He doesn’t deserve that because he is such a great husband and a great father to Sam and Casey. I really hope she doesn’t cheat on him.

New Zealand, man lost at sea, Rob Hewitt, Navy, 20 years, become a professional diving instructor, crayfish hunt, easy for Rob, they are diving in the water, Rob is having deep thoughts, they can’t find crayfish the whole day they are searching, one of the men found a big crayfish so Rob wants to find a bigger crayfish so they can be surprised so he is diving alone, when he is diving he takes something for his wife, he found a crayfish but the crayfish got away so Rob is swimming after it, he was far from the boat, he got hit by a powerful red current, that caused him to go further the ocean in, when he is finally above the water after the red current he was really far from the boat, he can still see the boat so he is swimming to the boat, but the boat doesn’t seem to get any closer, so finally he is screaming to them to get rescued but that didn’t work, after two hours the crew alarmed the coast guard, Rob saw them but the coast guards didn’t, after 5 hours there was a plane flying above him and the plane didn’t see him either, now it’s dark and there are sharks swimming around him under him, so he is just lying on the ocean to no draw any attention to the sharks, 18 hours later he woke up and he is still in the ocean, he is 16 kilometers from the mainland 20 hours later he becomes friends with the crayfish he had caught hours ago so that he wouldn’t be alone, 28 hours later Rob got hit by the wind and he found out that his skin was and vulnerable to bacteria, injury and his nails were coming off, he started to vomit, he still has the crayfish in the bag and ate it even though it was his ‘friend’ he ate but he needed to survive but he still needs water, so later on it started to rain it was a miracle for Rob, 36 hours later it is becoming a night later Rob found an island and he tried to swim to it but that didn’t work because no matter how hard he swam it just didn’t work, he was exhausted so that’s why he began blacked out, because he was blacked out he was hallucinating and hallucinated that he was again at land drinking some soda, he spends a night alone at the sea, 42 hours later he is having deep thoughts about his life, he sees a shark in the sea that is swimming around him he is lucky that he has a knife and can protect himself against the shark, but he didn’t need to stab the shark it went away, it is very sunny and it felt like for Rob that he was toasted, all the injuries on him got ‘cooked’, he tried to go under water to escape from the sun but that also hurt him, on the same day he was saying ‘goodbye’ to his family to talking to god, he was doing that because he wanted to drown himself and free himself from the suffering, but that didn’t work and is still alive, he felt gutted when he was still alive, 68 hours later (lost at sea) it is now night and Rob is saying the names of his loved ones to feel closer to them, he laid down to sleep he didn’t care if he died in his sleep or not, but he is lucky because the current that took him to North turned around and took him to the South he doesn’t notice because he is too weak, Rob had again a hallucination where he was taking off his wetsuit and he was claustrophobic because of it and took it off, but that isn’t safe because that is what floated him, 78 hours later he got finally rescued by the life guards.
Summary:
This episode plays off in New Zealand, it starts with an old navy diver Rob Hewitt. After 20 years in the navy he stopped and wanted to find something else to do in his life. So, he is trying to be a professional diving instructor.
It’s 6 o’clock in the morning, he is late to a crayfish hunt that he is joining to help the other fishmen. Rob thinks it is easy for him because he was 20 years a diver in the navy. When he and the other fishmen are diving, while Rob is diving, he is having deep thoughts about life itself and is also trying to find some crayfish. But he couldn’t find a crayfish the whole day, but he wasn’t the only one on the boat. But when a fisherman showed his big crayfish proudly to Rob, he wanted to find a bigger crayfish to show it. When they finally dived for the last time for the day Rob went with his diving buddy, but his buddy was not feeling it and swam up, so Rob went alone diving. Diving alone was one of the no’s when he was in the navy except this time, he thought it wouldn’t matter because it was much easier than in the navy, so he went alone. While he was diving, he found a big crayfish just when he thought he caught the crayfish, it went away quickly. He didn’t want to go back so Rob swam after the crayfish a big mistake, because he was swimming far from the boat and Rob got hit by the red current. That got him further from the boat, but he got his crayfish! When he went up, he saw that he was one kilometer away from the boast. Instead screaming to the boat so that the men would pick him up, he swam to it. He didn’t want them to think that a navy diver with experience over 20 years couldn’t handle a crayfish hunt. But it didn’t matter how much he swam to it, he couldn’t get any closer but got further away from the boat. So, he didn’t have any chose to scream to the boat, but they couldn’t hear him.
Two hours later the crew on the boat alarmed the west coast that a diver was missing. After the alarm was ringed there were boats everywhere. Rob saw the guards and screamed to them that he was much further away, except they didn’t see him and didn’t hear them.
5 hours lost at sea there was a plane flying above him, he thought that he was finally getting rescued that wasn’t the case. It got dark and there are sharks swimming everywhere he is lucky that he had a dark wetsuit that didn’t draw any attention to him from the sharks. He was still scared so he tried not to move and because he isn’t moving, he fell asleep.
20 hours lost at sea, he is 16 kilometers away from the mainland. He learned in the navy that loneliness will kill you, Rob remembered that he still had the bag with the crayfish in it he named it and they became friends.
28 hours lost at sea Rob got hit by the wind and when that happened everything hurt. That is because his body got vulnerable to bacteria, his skin and his nails were falling off. He also started to vomit the last things in his stomach, Rob knew that he wouldn’t survive when he wouldn’t eat. So, he ate the crayfish even though he was friends with it. A few hours later it started to rain, it was a miracle for Rob because that meant that would survive longer.
36 hours lost at sea Rob found an island when it became night; he screamed and tried to swim to the island, but the current was too strong, Rob still tried to swim to the island but no matter how much he tried it wouldn’t get any closer and the current took him further away. Rob was exhausted and blacked out, because of that he was beginning to hallucinate that he was on the island drinking a soda.
42 hours lost at sea, while Rob was having deep thoughts about his life, there was a shark swimming around him. Luckily, he has a knife to protect himself if he needed to, he would stab the shark, he luckily didn’t need to do that. Because of the shark Rob moved a lot that didn’t do much good to his health it was very sunny and hot. His injuries were burning it felt like he was being cooked alive he tried to escape from the sun to go under the water. But of the sea salt that hurt his scars more.
When the sun went away a little bit, he was talking to God that He should take care of his family it was sort like a goodbye to his life. He didn’t have any hope more anymore he just wanted everything to end, that why he tried to drown himself. Except that didn’t work and is still alive.
68 hours lost at sea, Rob is feeling very lonely, so he started saying the names of his loved ones to feel closer to them. He laid down closing his eyes not caring if he would survive or not. Because he is exhausted, he isn’t noticing that the current change it courses to the South instead to the North.
He blacked out again and again he had a hallucination, he hallucinated that he was taking off his wetsuit. When he woke up, he felt claustrophobic and took off his wetsuit that was dangerous because the wetsuit was the only thing that kept him alive all this time.
78 hours lost at sea because of the current he was taken back where he got lost, he heard sounds of people, but he thought that he was hallucinating again. But that wasn’t the case, he got rescued!

Summary:
Cameron is a new student in school. Where he meets Michael, they become best friends since the moment they met each other. Michael isn’t the only that Cameron he also met Bianca, the little sister of Katarina. He immediately has a crush on her, but she doesn’t see him that way in the beginning. Later, he hears that she needs tutoring in French, but Cameron doesn’t have French it was a way for him to ask her out. She finds it sweet! But she can’t have a boyfriend if her sister Kat doesn’t have a boyfriend, it is a new rule that their father made up. Bianca also has a crush on the pretty popular boy in school: Joey. Joey doesn’t really want to be her boyfriend, but he wants to date every girl in school and have sex with them, Bianca does want Joey to be her boyfriend. But there is one problem Kat doesn’t have a boyfriend and she doesn’t want one. When Cameron and Michael find out about the rule, they are trying to find someone for her sister Kat. It was hard to find a boy that would date her, but they found one Patrick; the bad boy of the school. At first, he doesn’t want to do it, so Cameron and Michael use Joey. Joey is a rich boy and always has a lot of money with him. So, Cameron and Michael tell the plan to Joey and he finds it great. Joey gives Patrick money to take Kat out on a date. Joey thinks he can a have a date with her, but Cameron also thinks that. So, the three go to a party where the whole school is. Bianca really wants to go for Joey, but she can’t because of her father so Kat also goes to the party with her sister. When she wants to go outside, she sees Patrick, who wants to take Kat to the party. She agrees but at the part she doesn’t talk to Patrick and runs away from him. And she is drinking, it isn’t a smart move of her because she gets drunk and is dancing on the table while the whole school has a view of her. Patrick saves her from that and takes her home in her car. They become really close with each other and she wants to kiss him, but he doesn’t let that happen because she is still drunk, and she wouldn’t remember it. She gets angry with him and goes inside of her home.
With Bianca it isn’t also going great. Joey wants all the attention of the girls at the party and forgets that Bianca exists. So, Bianca is bored, when she is outside of the party, she sees Cameron who is very sad because his plan didn’t work with Bianca. She finally understands that he has a big crush on her, and she finds out that she also likes him. Cameron takes Bianca home from the party, they have a little bit a discussion in the car. Bianca doesn’t care and kisses Cameron, he is very happy. They became a sort of a couple.
Kat is still angry at Patrick. While she is sporting outside, Patrick is singing for her at the tribune. That makes her forgive him.
And it is prom Bianca is going with Cameron and Kat is going with Patrick. They are both having a great time until something bad happens. Kat finds out that he took her on a date because of the money, but she doesn’t know that Patrick was slowly falling for her. Kat found out because of Joey, who was angry at Patrick at prom and just screamed it while Kat was listening.
Joey and Cameron also have a fight at prom. Joey pounded at his nose and called Bianca a bitch. Bianca hears and sees it’s all, she also kicked Joey and he was left with a black eye.
For English they needed to write a poem and present it for the class. Kat goes first and her poem is dedicated to Patrick: 10 things I hate about you:

- I hate the way you drive my car.

- I hate your big dumb combat boots, and the way you read my mind.
- I hate you so much it makes me sick; it even makes me rhyme.

Patrick is sad after he heard the poem, he really likes Kat so he decided to do something that maybe she would forgive. He saw Kat one time at a music store and she really liked a guitar, so he buys it for her with the money that Joey gave to him. Kat forgives him and both the sisters have a boyfriend they love very much.

The next is from another listener who is going in her freshman year and she doesn’t know what to buy for het dorm room. The listener should buy student ID, mini fridge with a mini microwave, projector and having a good relationship with the roommate.
The next one is from a 13-year old kid is going to perform, but they are nervous and doesn’t know how to be confident. Summary:
This podcast is dedicated to giving advice to the listeners of the podcast. But Keith wanted to share something first. Keith said that he has a beef with the company that is producing the bachelor company. Because the company copied the Motherhood series from them, even the videos are in the same order. They aren’t angry, but it would be nice if they would include them. The time that the podcast episode was made there was a lot of drama in the YouTube community. So, Ned said that it would be funny to make parody video series on their YouTube channel where they have ‘beef’ with each other.
They are finally giving advice to some listeners with their problems after 10 minutes. So, the first one is from a young teenage girl who has a crush on the brother of her best friend. Ned gives the advice to strengthen the band with the brother so she could have a chance but also with her best friend, so she isn’t going to be angry at them when they get together. And she needs to talk with the best friend about her dating. Zach admits that he dated a sister of a friend in high school, but that didn’t add much drama to Zach’s life.
The next problem is from a woman who is having an ultrasound at a hospital to check her health. But the big problem is that the one who is going to give her the ultrasound is the ex of her boyfriend. Summary:
The film is based on Romeo and Juliet. Romeo is Tony and Juliet is Maria in the film. There are two gangs in the New York streets, the White Jets and the Rican Sharks. The White Jets is a gang led by a white guy named Riff and the Rican Sharks is a gang full of immigrants with a Puerto Rican background. Both gangs have two persons who will fall in love with each other, Maria from the Rican sharks and Tony from the White Jets. The two will meet each other at a dance and they just knew that they were perfect for each other and nothing could ever stop them not even the gangs they are in even though they saw the gangs as a family. The two are beginning to meet each other in secret. They are obliviously are planning to tell the gangs so that the two gangs will maybe have peace with each other, because love rules above everything.
Later in the movie Tony and Maria find out that the Rican Sharks and the White Jets will have a street fight under a highway to finally decide who will control the streets of New York. Maria sends Tony to the fight to stop them and make them realize that they are being very stupid, and they should just talk to each other and make it right with each other.
But when Tony tries to stop the fight it goes terribly wrong, Tony killed Maria’s brother. When Maria finally sees Tony, she is of course angry at him but quickly she forgives him, because love. Tony and Maria are sleeping together in her flat and decided that they will run away together when they will meet each other at Doc’s place.
Anita the sister of law from Maria goes to the Doc to get some medicine for het headache, but the Jets assault her, for some reason she said in het angry mood that Maria died, she was ‘shot’ by Chino for loving Tony. The Jets tell Tony about it and of course he is very angry but most importantly he is devastated; he lost the love of his life.
Later Tony is wandering around in the city and sees Maria at the playground they run to each other, unfortunately Tony is shot by Chino.

I want to leave school.
I think you shouldn’t leave school! I know it can get very boring sometimes especially the subjects, but you need it for later. Everybody needs to go to school and graduate, because you need it for later. Maybe you want to work now, but when you didn’t graduate you can’t find great jobs. And you will earn not much money when you didn’t graduate. Employers will much rather hire people that did graduate and especially people who also have a degree. But if you really don’t like the subjects and the people there! You can follow classes from home, I heard that homeschooling is great! So, you can follow subjects that you find interesting and you also don’t have to see the boring people at your school then. Maybe you can talk about being homeschooled with your parents. I hope that you will find a solution!

Looking back on 2018
2018 was a busy year for me, because I had my exams and I really needed to study a lot for it. That’s also why it was a stressful year for me. I was stressing the whole year, because I really wanted to graduate and go to the havo.
I made a few new friends and I got back in touch with my old friends that I lost contact with a few years ago. Unfortunately I also lost some friends on the way, I was sad about that but I got pretty quickly over it and was happy about the new friends.
I also got a job for the first time. In the beginning I really hated it and wanted to quit but later and now I really love it. I have really nice colleagues.
I remember this year that I was excited for was the Royal wedding between the two spouses Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
Looking forward to 2019
These are my three new years resolution for 2019.
- For myself I’d like to explore my hobbies. Because I had it busy in 2018 I couldn’t carry out them. I really want to bake more and try new recipes and I would like to do more stuff in the fashion, Like making skirts out of t-shirts, making a dress etc.
- I would like to volunteer more for good causes to help people. I don’t know how I am going to do it. Maybe I would volunteer at the local food bank
- I really want to pass this grade because it is much harder than the mavo.

Dear Laura,
I had a week ago the autumn break for one week. Today I have begun school, fun… Monday and Tuesday I didn’t do anything. Wednesday, I went to Nijmegen with my parents, my mother needed a winter jacket but didn’t find it. But when we went to the store I bought a new purple sweater and black skinny jeans. I didn’t want to buy a lot of things because a few weeks ago I went shopping in Eindhoven, I bought a lot of clothes then. Thursday, I went to my job, I worked from 1 pm to 9 pm. From 1 to 5 I did the cash desk and from 5 to 9 I cleaned the store a bit. Saturday, I went to Den Bosch with my parents, because my mother still needed a jacket, but she didn’t find. And that was my autumn break. The next break I would like to meet with my friends more.
