Introduction - Genre
Genre means kind or type. Genre can be based on many things including:
How long it is? Short stories are short!
What it’s about? Is it about romance? Or history?
It is true or has it been made up by the author?
Why do we need to know about genre?
Well, written works that have the same characteristics are in the same genre.
That means that you know what to expect.
For example a historical short story – you know that it will take place at a time in the past (history). It will be a short piece (short) and it’s a narrative (story).
