Writing Assignment: Letter to a family member

 

Before you start: Check the rubric, so you know exactly what is expected of you.

 

Time to put everything you’ve worked with today together.

 

You are writing a letter to a family member (uncle or aunt) in Canada. You would like to visit them during the summer vacation and ask if this is possible. You will have to include:

 

  • A greeting (see stones)

 

  • Ask how the family is doing and tell them how you are doing right now.

 

  • Tell them about your plan to visit them during the summer vacation. Ask them if it is possible to stay with them. Tell them how long you would like to stay and what things you’d like to do while you are there.

 

  • Thank them for their help and that you can’t wait to see them.

 

  • End the letter with a goodbye (see stones)

Think of something you can do. It has to be linked to English or the English Speaking World. Ask the teacher for permission; he will decide if you are allowed to.

Extra tips:

 

Use the guide and the stones.

Don’t use the same words over and over again.

You just graduated from college. You are applying for the job of Teacher Assistant in an elementary school in London. You’re going to write a motivation letter to your future boss. You have to convince them that you are the perfect person for the job. You will have to include:

  • A greeting (see stones)

  • Why you want this job; what this job means to you.

  • Why you deserve this job (your diploma, strengths, motivation)

  • Thank them for their time and for giving you a chance. Say that you will be looking forward to their reply.

  • End the letter with a formal goodbye (see stones)

130 – 180  words.
