READ THIS INFORMATION CAREFULLY AT THE START OF EVERY THEME
Hi kids,
In year 1, you will learn a lot of English. You will learn grammar and words and practice your skills. You will work towards achieving (bereiken) different goals. You can find these goals on the left under 'Can Do statements', because it means you can do something. The goal is to master these statements by the end of the year. However, maybe you can already do some of these right now! That can mean you can work on other things. Always discuss this with your teacher. At the end of the year, you will all have the same base level English (= basis level Engels).
Every week you have 2 English lessons. You work on the lessons in 'parts'. Every week, you finish one part of the theme. There are different exercises (oefeningen) and you will work on skills (vaardigheden) like listening and watching, reading, writing and speaking.
In every theme, we will test your English language skills with a Masterpiece. In this Masterpiece, you will use the grammar and words you have learned and work on something that has to do with the theme. You will receive feedback to improve.
During this theme, you will also give your first presentation in front of the class as part 3 and 4 of this theme.
On this Wikiwijs page you can find all the documents you need for Thema 3: Eten. First click on the tab called Can Do Statements to see what you're going to do and what you will learn. Everything you need to know, is on this Wikiwijs.
Writing down your answers can be done in 3 ways: you can use a Google or One Drive Document, you can use a Word Document or you can write your answers on paper in a notebook (= Engels schriftje).
As we said, you will create a Masterpiece to test your English. At the beginning of every theme, the teacher will explain the Masterpiece assignment to you so you can start working on it. You will hand this in at the end of the theme. The teacher will explain how to hand it in.
Every theme will be set up as follows:
- 10 lessons to work on all the parts of the theme.
- 2 Masterpiece lessons - at the end of the second lesson you will hand in your Masterpiece.
For this theme, we will have a lot of fun with food during your last Masterpiece lesson ;)
In case you finish early, you can start working on the Challenges and/or your Masterpiece. Always talk to your teacher and let them know what you are doing.

Het is belangrijk dat je al je harde werk goed opslaat in jouw mapje Engels en wekelijks je werk bijhoudt. Zorg ervoor dat je een tekstverwerker (zoals Word of Google Doc) en een goede PDF-reader (Foxit, Adobe) gedownload hebt. Begrijp je niet wat er gezegd of geschreven is? Stel je vraag aan je expert of een stamgroepsgenoot!
