The history behind the story..

 Alice Liddell
Alice Liddell was a girl who lived in England. She was born on 4 May 1852. She had a lot of brothers and sisters. Through her father she met Charles Dodgson also known as Lewiss Caroll, the writer of Alice in Wonderland. They became great friends. Charles, or Lewis wrote the story ‘Alice in Wonderland’ especially for Alice and of course she had to play the main character in the story. After a while the two lost contact but when the book Alice in Wonderland was published everyone knew it was ‘about’ Alice Liddell. When Alice was 20 years old, she and Prince Leopold (the son of Queen Victoria) fell in love. But Alice was a ‘common’ girl and therefore they could not get married. Even when she was older, she was famous for being 'the' Alice! She died when she was 82.

 Lewis Carroll
His real name was Charles Dodgson. Sometimes writers use a different name for the work they write (pseudonym). He was a mathematician and a clergyman (dominee). On the one hand he wrote books about Mathematics and on the other hand he wrote children’s books. When he himself was a child, he loved to tell his 7 brothers and sisters stories or read them stories. After the Bible and works from Shakespeare, Carroll’s work 'Alice in Wonderland' is the most quoted in the whole world!
