Be aware of what VU offers in the field of AI. VU provides the basic version of Copilot. VU has determined that user privacy is sufficiently safeguarded when you are logged in with your VU account. Your data will then not be reused to train the model. More information about this can be found via this link. Also be aware that Copilot uses Bing to search the internet in real time.
When using other AI tools, such as ChatGPT or Elicit, you are personally responsible for the risks. These other AI tools fall outside VU’s license and are therefore not supported by the IT helpdesk or the University Library.
What does this mean in practice? For example, when you upload a text to ChatGPT, you don’t know exactly what happens to that data. So never share sensitive information, such as names, email addresses, research data, etc., via GenAI. The general rule is: if in doubt, use Copilot or ask for advice at UBVU.
