Many
‘’Many’’ is used when talking about countable nouns (things you can count one by one, telbaar). You use ‘’many’’ to show a large number of something.
When to use ‘’many’’:
- With countable nouns (e.g., apples, books, chairs).
- In negative sentences and questions (but it can also be used in positive sentences).
Example sentences:
- How many apples are in the basket?
- Apples are countable because you can count them separately (1 apple, 2 apples, etc.). We use ‘’many’’ in a question to ask about the number.
- There aren’t many chairs in the room.
- Chairs are countable because you can count them one by one. We use ‘’many’’ in a negative sentence to show that there are only a few chairs.
Why ‘’many’’ is used:
- It shows the number of things that can be counted separately.
- We use it in question and negative sentences to express a small or large number.
