During English class, you will learn how to do things in English. We call these things the Can Do statements, because it means you can do something.
The goal is to master these statements by the end of the year. However, maybe you can already do some of these right now! That can mean you can work on other things. Always discuss this with your teacher.

Can Do statements for Theme 2 – Homo Universalis.
Ik kan de ‘Present Simple’ gebruiken om te praten/schrijven over feiten en gewoonten.
Ik kan controle vragen stellen aan het eind van een zin met behulp van ‘question tags’.
Ik kan verschillende personen / voorwerpen / objecten met elkaar vergelijken met behulp van ‘comparatives’.
Ik kan ‘relative pronouns’ (who / which / O) gebruiken om zinnen aan elkaar te schrijven.
Ik kan vertellen/schrijven over wat er in het verleden is gebeurd met gebruik van de ‘Past Simple’.
Ik kan correcte zinnen maken waarin plaats voor tijd komt.
Ik kan ‘prepositions’ (at, to, by, in, on, for, of, etc.) om locatie, tijd, of richting aan te geven in een zin.
Daarnaast zijn er wat vaardigheden die geleidelijk aan groeien. Deze hebben te maken met de taalvaardigheden (lezen, luisteren, spreken en schrijven).
At the end of this theme, I can:
read a text to look for specific information
complete online questionnaires in which in need to use specific, personal information
listen to spoken English while focussing on specific information
write a short text about someone else, after having found information online
For reading, I can also:
understand information in short, relatively simple texts
find information in everyday material such as advertisements, timetables and short texts
understand short, personal letters
For listening, I can also:
understand sentences with basic vocabulary in short messages
understand a brief explanation (korte uitleg) of what I need to do
understand relevant information from short predictable (korte voorspelbare) listening fragments, such as instructions
For writing, I can also:
write short texts and messages about things that I need
write a personal letter
write a text based on (simple) information I find online, using simple connectors like ‘and’, ‘but’, and ‘because’
For speaking, I can also:
use standard phrases for classroom communication, such as ‘I finished my homework’, ‘I forgot my charger’, ‘Can I go to the bathroom?’ etc.
talk about simple tasks and communicate on familiar topics
use simple sentences to talk about my family, living conditions and hobbies
