Explanation

Asking questions

Before you start making a question out of a normal sentence, you have to see if one of the following verbs (werkwoorden) are in the sentence: Am/is/are, was/were, can/could, will/would, or must.

Is one of those words in the sentence, you start your question sentence with that word.

For example:

I am tall. = Am I tall?

When your sentence does not have any of the words, start your question sentence with do, does, or did.

For example:

I take the bus to school every Monday = Do I take the bus to school every Monday?

What about have and has?

There are exceptions to the rules, with for example have and has. When have and has are in the sentence you use do or does.

For example:

She has a new scooter. = Does she have a new scooter?

Has becomes have.

When there is have + voltooid deelwoord, you start your sentence with has or have.

For example:

I have done all the work = have I done all the work?

Question tag

You use question tag to conform a question.

For example:

He was supposed to meet us here, wasn't he?

When there is am, are, is, have, can, should, may, or will in the sentence, you repeat that in your question tag

For example:

I am in the right classroom, aren't I?

If these words are not in the sentence you use do, does, or did.

For example:

She loves dogs, doesn't she?

When your question starts with bevestiging it ends with ontkenning.

When your question starts with ontkenning it ends with bevestiging.
