You are on this part of this website, because you have scored very well on the test. To make it more challenging you will read the explanation of the Past Simple in English. Hopefully you will understand the Past Simple better and answer the questions on the final test easily. On this part we will delve into the irregular verbs by studying them via Quizlet.

You will read now the English description of the Past Simple.

The Past Simple is a tense about actions that happened in the past which are also finished in the past. When you want to write a sentence with the Past Simple it is important to know that there are two kinds of verbs: regular verbs and irregular verbs.

Regular verbs end with -ed. Some of the verbs already end with -e, for example, the verb ‘save’. This verb only gets a -d in the end, because it has the letter ‘e’ in the end.

As we know, the irregular verbs do not have a rule. For this reason, we have to study them by heart (uit onze hoofd leren) so that we can use it with sentences regarding the past. At the bottom of this page you will find Quizlet with flashcards. Study these flashcards for 5 minutes to make sure that you know all the irregular verbs.

Rechts onderin staat er 'Kies een leermethode'. Bij deze tool is het belangrijk dat je minimaal 5 minuten besteedt aan de irregular verbs, zodat je ze goed uit je hoofd weet. Probeer eerst 'Combineren' en ga dan vervolgens verder met een andere methode of met dezelfde. Hier ben je zelf verantwoordelijk voor en heb je de vrije keuze om jezelf te gaan testen met de methode die je wilt.
