Dating

Dating has come a long way. Over 40 years ago, if you had a crush on a girl and school was out, you had to search through town in hope of finding her. If you had her number, you could gather your guts and phone her on her family’s telephone line, but you’d have to get through her parents just to talk to her.

Nowadays, teens exchange emoticon-filled messages on social media. Online, users post photos on their profile and flirt with other users on the site. It almost seems like some kids prefer communicating their emotions behind the protection of an electronic screen to talking face to face.

Most (young) adults use dating apps to find a romantic partner these days. Most of these apps work like this: You are shown some pictures of someone and you can either swipe right (match) or left (no match). Often, there is also some extra information about the person on their profile: where they work, what they enjoy doing in their free time, what they are looking for in a relationship, etc. Even though they are alike, most dating apps have a feature that makes them unique. For example, Happn matches you with people you’ve crossed paths with in real life. On Bumble women make the first move and Breeze matches you with one person a day and arranges a first date for you. There is a dating app out there for everyone.
