Before the big test
Blaire is talking with her classmate, Rachel. It is the day before the big biology test, and Blaire is feeling nervous. "What if I don't pass?" she says. "Don't worry, Blaire," says Rachel, "You are smart. You'll pass." "Are you sure?" asks Blaire. "Yes! I am certain," says Rachel. "Just study hard tonight and you will pass." "Thanks," says Blaire. She smiles.
After school, Blaire goes home. She makes a plan to study. She is going to study all evening. She just needs a good, comfortable place to get started. Blaire goes to her bedroom. She sits at her desk. The desk is too small. She can't spread out. Blaire is not comfortable. Blaire goes to the kitchen. She sits at the table. The table is wooden. It is too hard. Blaire is not comfortable. Blaire goes to the playroom. She sits on the floor. After a while, her back starts to hurt. Blaire is not comfortable. She goes to the living room. Her little brother, Eli, is watching TV. She sits down on the couch. She gets out her books. She gets out her class notes. She puts on her glasses. She is ready to study. "Eli," says Blaire, "the TV is distracting me. I can't study. Can you please turn it off?" Eli doesn't move. He doesn't say anything. He just stares at the TV. Blaire sighs. She reads her notes. But she can still hear the TV in the background. She looks up at it. "I love this show," she says. She tries to study her notes. But the TV is too distracting. She keeps looking up at it.
After a while, Blaire stops studying altogether. She watches the TV. She watches an entire show with Eli. The show ends, and Blaire is tired. The sun has gone down. The sky is dark. Blaire is too tired to study. She goes upstairs to bed. Blaire wakes up late the next morning. She hurries to class. Her biology teacher is handing out the test. "Here you go, Blaire," he smiles. He lays the test on her desk. "Don't worry. I'm sure you studied hard for this. You'll do fine."
