Guess Who I Bumped Into?
Burak tells Tamar about a meeting in the park.
![]() Burak: Hey, sis. Guess who I bumped into the other day? Tamar: Who? Burak: Kefira! Tamar: Who is Kefira? Burak: You know her, she’s Caleb’s sister. Caleb is the one who threw the great garden party last week, remember? Tamar: Oh, right! Yeah, that was fun. Where did you see her? Burak: At the park. I was just wandering around a little, thinking out loud that really I should be doing my homework, you know, when I bumped into someone. Literally. Tamar: Oh no! What happened? Burak: Well, she fell over. I immediately started to apologize, of course, saying I’d been lost in my thoughts, and I helped her up... I felt really bad about it. But she was apologizing as well, saying that she hadn’t been paying attention either. So we kind of decided it was OK, no big deal, nothing broken, you know, and then we looked at each other properly and realized that we knew each other. Tamar: Then what? Burak: Well, you know, I said: “Don’t I know you from somewhere?” and she said: “Yeah, we met at my brother’s party last Saturday” and I said, “Oh, that’s right, you’re Caleb’s sister” and then we both began to laugh. The funny thing was, we talked for at least an hour at that party, so I don’t understand why it took us so long to recognize each other in the first place! Though she looked really different, you know, without the fancy hairdo and the makeup and the party dress, a lot prettier actually, if you ask me, and of course I was having a seriously bad hair day... Tamar: You always have a bad hair day. Burak: Yeah, whatever. I'm just saying I probably looked different too. Anyway, so then I suggested getting some coffee and a donut and she said yes, and we went to the River Park Cafe. Tamar: Oooh, big brother has got a girlfriend! Burak: Stop it. She’s not my girlfriend, we just had a good time, that’s all. She told me more about school and about her job and her friends... She asked me to tell you hi, by the way. Tamar: Yeah, because she wants you to be her boyfriend! Burak: Oh, you’re hopeless. I’m never telling you anything again! |
