Step 1 - Reading

My Mum
You are going to read about Lottie, who talks about her mother.

My Mum

Hello, I'm Lottie. I'm 13 years old and I live in Wellwyn, England with my mum. Until the divorce we lived in Scotland. I go back there a few times a year to see my dad and his new girlfriend.

But let's get back to my mum. Her name is Shanice. She's 46 years old. Her hair is black, but she's already got some grey in it. She hates it, but I think it looks classy. She's got green eyes, just like me.

My mum gets up early most days. She makes us breakfast and sometimes she takes me to school. But only when the weather is really bad! I'm talking thunderstorms and temperatures way below zero here.

My mum is a teacher, but she doesn't teach at a school. She's an in-company trainer, which means that she teaches her colleagues.

Most days my mum gets home at 5 o'clock. When she's working late, I often cook dinner for us both. Every now and then we get a take-out.

After dinner, my mum sometimes helps me with my homework. Today she is helping me with maths. I like maths, but it can be difficult. My mum isn't that good at maths herself, but she is really good at helping me find out for myself what I'm doing wrong.

In the evening we sometimes watch TV together. Or my mum reads, because she loves reading.

At the weekends we do all sorts of things. Last weekend we went to a pop concert together. My mum loves music, and so do I.

My mum can be a pain, especially when she makes me clean my room, but mostly it's great living with her!
