Preparing for a doctors appointment
Before you go, think about your problem so you can describe it well. This will give you and your doctor a better chance of finding out what is wrong. Ask yourself these questions:

1. What am I worried about?
  • Think about your problem and make a list of anything that seems different.
    For example:
Pain in my stomach after I eat, not much appetite, tired all the time.
  • Think about what helps your problem and what makes it worse.
  • Think about how long you've had it, and whether it's getting better or worse.
2. What medicines do I take?

Your doctor needs to know about any prescription medicines you are taking, such as high blood pressure medication and birth control pills. The doctor also needs to know about all the drugs you buy for yourself such as aspiris, vitamins, and herbal remedies. Tell you doctor how long you've been taking each one, and their exact names. To help you remember, take the containers along with you.

3. What do I want to ask the doctor?

Write down your questions, such as: What caused this problem? What can I do so this won't happen again?

4. What do I want from the doctor?

This is very important. Do you want your problem fixed or do you just want to know that it's not serious? Do you want medicine? or advice? or comfort?
Knowing what you want from your doctor gives you a much better chance of getting it.
