What and why?

What?

You're going to make either a digital presentation (make a video, a powerpoint with voice over or something like that).

The subject either has to be about a famous building in an English-speaking country or about an important moment in history in an English-speaking country.

English-speaking countries are:

  • Great Britain
  • Ireland
  • United States of America
  • Canada
  • South-Africa
  • part of the Caribbean

Why?

To get more knowldge about culture and/or the countries where English is spoken as a native language.

How?

Step 1

Step 2

Search online for more information about your topic.

Then devide the information you found into four sub-topics:

Step 3

Make a draft of your presentation.

This should be written in Word and should be at least 1 - 1,5 pages long.

Do it as follows:

Sub-topic 1

Write down the information you found.

Sub-topic 2

Write down the information you found.

Sub-topic 3

Write down the information you found.

Sub-topic 4

Write down the information you found.

Introduction

What is your topic about? Why did you choose this topic? What will you tell?

Conclusion

Write down in 2 or 3 sentences what you found out about your topic what you didn't know yet.

Step 4

Start creating your digital presentation with the information you found.

Your presentation should be between 4 and 6 minutes long.

But before you start... watch this:

How to give great presentations

Step 5

On Friday 24-06-2016 you're going to show your presentation to the rest of the class.

Make sure ms. Tuijn receives your video (or a link to your video): put it on Showbie or send it by email.

If your presentation is longer than 6 minutes or shorter than 4 minutes, you will get -1 point off your mark.

Five students are going to mark your presentation on the following points:

2p

I understand everything.

I understand most.

I don’t understand it.

Understandability

You have to listen carefully to understand > there are key words but no sentences.

You have to listen carefully to understand but the presentation contains full sentences.

Everything that's said is written down so you can read along with what the speaker tells you.

Key words

The speaker uses his/her own words to tell the story. The speaker shows a full understanding of the topic.

The speaker uses is own words but it is written-language (book-language) rather than spoken language.

The speaker does not seem to understand the topic well. It looks like he/she reads aloud the information from Wikipedia.

Spoken language, use your own words

It was really interesting and fun to watch this presentation.

It was sometimes interesting but I'm not blown away by the awewsomeness of this presentation.

Listening to and watching this presentation was quite boring.

Interesting

The presentation contains suitable pictures that are all about the topic.

The presentation contains pictures and most of them are about the topic.

The presentation has no pictures or the pictures have nothing to do with the topic.

Pictures are useful
