Hallo brugklassers van HNL,

Op deze website staat het programma voor jullie Engelse lessen via de STERCOLLECTIES.

Als je dit netjes volgt en elke opdracht doet leer je goed Engels.

We zullen bijna altijd instructies in het Engels geven. In het begin is het misschien even wennen maar vraag je docent gerust om uitleg.

Now these five lists are in WRTS in "MIJN WOORDENLIJSTEN" and you can start working with them.

Study the words English-Dutch and Dutch-English and when you think you know them all: Click Overhoren at the top.

Every week, in the final (third) lesson of the week your teacher will check your revision of the words. (Revision = leerwerk)

At the end of every THEME you will have to know all the words and we will test you so it makes sense to plan ahead and do some revision every week.

This week your revision is:

"Personal A" N-E & E-N.

Next week: "Personal B" N-E & E-N.

The third week: "Personal C" N-E & E-N.

and so on..

Your teacher will tell you which words you will be asked when.

Reading in class

Every third lesson in the week, you spend your time reading an English book. There are many books available on-line. Your teacher will tell you about it. Of course, you can also bring a book to class. Last but not least, choose a book you like. We'll ask you to make notes while reading. So, every week you write a short summary (samenvatting) of the things you've read.

About Testing

Every third lesson of the week some of you will be tested on the words studied so far because it's good for you and us to know if  you are on track. You won't be graded on this, but your teacher makes notes of your progress.

At the end of each unit you will do a test on all the items that you have worked on. This test will include some idiom exercises, some grammar and maybe even a listening, reading or writing exercise. Make sure you understand all the grammar that is in the unit. Of course, you can always ask your teacher in one of the final lessons.

Select "oefeningen grammatica" or "extra oefeningen"

All in all you will do 8 tests on all the units that we cover this year. The grades on these so-called "repetities" will be entered in Magister and take "weging" 1 in the first period and "weging" 2 in the other periods.

Throughout the year you will also do a number of reading tests. The grades on these tests will take "weging" 3.

The tests are done, either during the lesson, or during the so-called "centraal toetsuur".

It is very important to get used to the way CITO will test your reading skills once you get to your final year. That is why we want you to practice this a lot and we will test you on this subject a few times every year.

Learn about homophones (same-sounders)

You've just learned the alphabet, and now it's important for you to become famiiar with the English sounds. In the following matching game you will learn about homophones. These are words that have the same sound, but a different meaning and spelling. Choose elementary level and do 2 matching exercise. Make sure you check your answers
