Series nine starts on Wednesday the twenty-fourth of May 2023 on BBC One and continues weekly.
What’s The Great British Sewing Bee about?
The clue’s in the title — think The Great British Bake Off, but instead of mastering the art of puff pastry, contestants must perfect their sewing skills.
In the show, ten talented amateur sewers compete to be named “Britain’s best home sewer”, completing a series of tasks set by the show’s two judges, Patrick Grant and Esme Young, who have series regulars since 2019.
Who is The Great British Sewing Bee’s new presenter Sara Pascoe?
Taking over the reigns from Strictly’s Claudia Winkleman and comedian Joe Lycett, Sara is an English actress, comedian, presenter and writer. She has appeared on television programmes including 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown for Channel 4, QI for BBC and Taskmaster for the digital channel Dave.

Patrick Grant is Creative Director of Savile Row tailors Norton & Sons and menswear line, E Tautz — he’s also won various awards for his craftsmanship.
What makes The Great British Sewing Bee so popular, even after all those years?
Amongst other things, this programme features gifted contestants who make a marvellous case for making your own clothes. Not only is that good for the environment, but might make home sewing more popular among the younger generation!

Have you ever made your own outfit? This could be something small, like decorating a jacket, but also a complete carnival outfit.
Work together with a classmate and tell each other about your experiences.

Design your own clothes
You are going to design your own piece of clothing! In this period you learnt that reusing clothes and making your own clothes is a lot more sustainable than buying them.

Step 1
Visualize a unique fashion design that you have created in your mind. It could be an outfit, an accessory, or a combination of both. You could go online to find examples of what you would like.
Step 2
Describe your design. Write a short description of your fashion creation. Include details such as:
Colours: What colours have you used in your design?
Style: Describe the overall style of your fashion creation (e.g., casual, formal, sporty).
Fabric: Mention the type of fabric you envision for your design.
Accessories: Describe any accessories that fit your design.
Step 3
Discuss wearability. Explain when and where someone might wear your fashion creation. Is it for everyday wear, special occasions, or a particular season?
If possible, include a simple sketch or drawing of your fashion design. This is optional but can enhance the visual aspect of your assignment. You can also go online and combine pictures or use an old magazine to cut and paste your outfit.

Make a poster with all of the information above, with your design at the centre!
