Today, we're learning about the Present Simple and Present Continuous

 

Our goals:

- know when to apply Present Simple and Present Continuous

- apply the Present Simple and Present Continuous correctly

Present Simple

Explanation Present Simple

With I, you, we, they -> whole verb

With she, he, it -> verb+s or verb+es

 

Positive                                 Negative

I play tennis                  -        I don't play

You play tennis             -       You don't play

She plays tennis           -      She doesn't play

 

They miss their family    -      They don't miss their family

He misses his family      -      He doesn't miss his family

 

 

We use the Present Simple for:

  • short actions
  • habits
  • facts

 

 

Present Continuous

Explanation Present Continuous

to be + verb-ing  (example: is playing)

 

Positive                                       Negative

I am working                          -    I'm not working

She is watching TV               -    She isn't watching TV

You are listening                    -    You aren't listening

 

He is writing a letter              -     He isn't writing a letter

We are swimming in a pool   -    We aren't swimming in a pool
